The 2025 Ford Explorer has been refreshed with a new front end and new interiors. The lineup has been trimmed, but the new Explorer also gets more tech, including BlueCruise hands-free driving and a new infotainment experience.
Ford's exterior facelift is a minor one. The grille is stretched downward, taking up much more of the 2025 Explorer's nose. The new headlights are fully LED, with a new lighting signature. The tailgate is also new, with LED lamps extending into the large Explorer lettering badge.
The changes inside are much more comprehensive, starting with the new 13.2-inch centre touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital dashboard. The screens sit in a new dashboard layout Ford says has been pushed forward for a more spacious cabin. Ford says it has used new soft-touch surfaces that include more premium-looking stitching. A new tray below the main control bar holds a pair of wireless phone charge pads and is a better place to leave your device.
Ford's new Digital Experience, its name for the software behind the screens, runs plenty of Google Apps. The Google Assistant is the default setting, with Google Maps and the Google Play store. Users can also use Amazon Alexa voice commands. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard.
When the Explorer is parked, users can watch videos, stream content, and access a web browser. Google Play games will be offered, including some that will connect with a Bluetooth-enabled controller.
Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ driver assistance is standard. The suite includes pre-collision assist with emergency braking, blind spot info alerts, adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, and post-collision braking. On top trims, Ford's hands-off BlueCruise system will be available. It allows hands-free driving on the highway when conditions are right. The Explorer gets a free 90 day trial, then there are subscription fees to keep the service active.
Instead of six models for 2024, Ford has just four for 2025. The lineup starts with the Active trim, which starts at $50,535, including destination. The ST-Line, with black wheels and trim and a honeycomb grille, sits above that. Both get AWD, a 10-speed auto, and a 300-hp 2.3L turbo-four engine.
Ford has kept the ST sports trim with its 400 hp 3.0L V6, and the Platinum grade, which will be offered with both 2.3 and 3.0L engines. The hybrid models are gone for 2025, as is the off-road Timberline trim.
