2024 Kia EV9 Debuts: EV Poised to Redefine the SUV Experience

Kia’s all-electric EV9 SUV is set to revolutionize the way we think of SUVs. With a sleek design, top-notch technology, and enhanced comfort and space for every occupant, it’s no wonder why the EV9 is currently one of the most anticipated new family vehicles. But that’s not all; Kia has taken sustainability to a whole new level with the EV9 by embracing sustainable materials and aiming for carbon neutrality.

Design & Technology

The Kia EV9’s design will leave no one indifferent – if anything, like the EV6 before it, it will become a brand ambassador. Using Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy, the robust-looking SUV blends muscle and serenity — and it works. And it’s also large and close in size to the Telluride. With an overall length of 5,010 mm, with a 3,100 mm wheelbase, it stands at a solid 1,980 mm wide and 1,755 mm tall. Despite its size, it looks athletic and focused.

Design highlights include Kia’s “Digital Tiger Face,” which boasts two sets of tiny cube lamps positioned next to the headlamps, “Star Map” LED daytime running lights (DRLs), which produce an elegant, animated lighting sequence, and a selection of wheels sized from 19 to 21 inches.

Kia has also revealed a GT-Line version. The sporty trim will emphasize the EV9’s potential with unique front and rear bumpers, wheels, and a roof rack. Plus, it will be offered with a distinctive black colour palette for an even more confident stance.

Beneath its sleek 0.28 aerodynamic coefficient, the 2024 Kia EV9 will house six or seven passengers over three rows of seats. The second row will be available in numerous configurations such as swivel-type twin independent seats that can rotate a full 180 degrees to create something like a rear lounge. Also part of the deal will be what Kia calls the “Panoramic wide display,” which combines a 12.3-inch cluster display, a 5-inch segment display, and a 12.3-inch infotainment system display. And this is just the beginning where features and functions are concerned.

Sustainability and Performance

Behind its digital Tiger Face, Kia has taken sustainability to a whole new level with its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and embracing sustainable materials in the production process of its vehicles.

The base (TBD for Canada) Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Standard Range model comes with a 76.1-kWh battery, while the RWD Long Range and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variants are equipped with a larger 99.8-kWh battery. The standard RWD Long Range model features a 201 hp and 258 lb-ft electric motor that allows it to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds, according to preliminary data. The Standard RWD EV9, powered by a single electric motor rated at 214 hp and 258 lb-ft is faster, doing the zero-to-100-km/h sprint in 8.2 seconds.

The AWD model has two electric motors that produce a combined power output of 279 hp and 443 lb-ft, enabling a quick sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds. Additionally, an optional Boost feature increases the combined torque to an impressive 516 lb-ft of torque and accelerates the EV9 from zero to 100 km/h in only 5.3 seconds. On the topic of more speed and power, a Kia executive confirmed that a true GT version will launch by 2025.

With an impressive range of 541 km on a single charge (this estimate uses the overly generous European testing standards, so the estimated range in Canada will likely be closer to 480 km), the RWD Long Range version will be the EV9 family’s range king. And thanks to its ultra-fast 800-volt charging capability, the EV9 will recharge to the tune of 239 km range in just 15 minutes. So far, every vehicle from the Hyundai Motor Group assembled on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) has impressed all with its onboard technologies and efficiency – we expect no less from the new 2024 Kia EV9.

The driving experience will be further enhanced with cutting-edge technology such as Highway Driving Pilot (HDP). Boasting Level 3 autonomy using no less than 15 sensors, including two lidars, which will enable the SUV to scan and detect objects in a full 360-degree field of view, Kia has pushed boundaries to create an advanced and highly desirable family SUV.

Kia Connect Store

In addition to its impressive design and technology features, the Kia EV9 also offers customers access to the Kia Connect Store, where they can update features of their vehicle over the air (OTA) anytime, anywhere. This means that customers no longer have to bring their car into dealership service centres in order to make upgrades or updates, like the Boost feature – they can simply do it online.

The all-new 2024 Kia EV9 is set to revolutionize the SUV user experience with its superior design and technology features. Sustainable materials are used throughout its production process as part of Kia’s commitment towards carbon neutrality, while innovative technologies will help enhance user comfort and safety.
