North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year Semi-Finalists Announced

The North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards (NACTOY) has announced its list of 25 semi-finalists, which it calls "Best of 2024" vehicles.

NACTOY jurors started with a total of 52 candidates for the car, truck, and utility vehicle categories, comprising all-new or significantly updated vehicles for the model year.

For North American Car of the Year, the 10 semi-finalist candidates are:

  • BMW 5 Series
  • BMW i5
  • Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray
  • Ford Mustang
  • Honda Accord
  • Hyundai Ioniq 6
  • Subaru Impreza
  • Toyota Crown
  • Toyota GR Corolla
  • Toyota Prius/Prius Prime

Two of those models are EVs, but four are available or come standard with hybrid electric powertrains.

There are five Truck of the Year candidates:

  • Chevrolet Colorado
  • Chevrolet Silverado EV
  • Ford Ranger
  • Ford Super Duty
  • GMC Canyon

In the Utility Vehicle of the Year category, there are 10 candidates:

  • Chevrolet Blazer EV
  • Chevrolet Equinox EV
  • Dodge Hornet
  • Genesis Electrified GV70
  • Honda Pilot
  • Hyundai Kona
  • Kia EV9
  • Mazda CX-90
  • Toyota Grand Highlander
  • Volvo EX30

Half of the vehicles in this category are EVs, two offer a PHEV or EV variant, and all but one are offered with some form of electrification.

“The value of these awards is in the expertise and diverse perspectives of our jurors,” said NACTOY president Jeff Gilbert. “We all evaluate vehicles in a different way. In the end, we come to a consensus. The vehicles on this list are worthy of further evaluation, and we look forward to spending more time driving them, learning more about them and comparing them with the competition.”

50 top journalists from Canada, the U.S., and Mexico vote for the awards. The list includes AutoTrader's own Editor-in-Chief Jodi Lai.

Three NACTOY finalists in each category will be announced on November 16, 2023 at the LA Auto Show, and the Winners will be announced in Detroit on January 4, 2024.
