CHiPS Trailer Features BMW and Ducati Motorcycles. Also Explosions

The latest installment in the Fast and Furious series catches most of the attention when it comes to action and car chases in movies. If you want a little less fast, a little less furious, and a lot fewer wheels, then the trailer for CHiPS has probably caught your attention. If it hasn't crossed your path, then we're going to bring it to you.

The new movie, starring and directed by Hit and Run's Dax Shepard alongside Michael Peña, is a remake of the late 1970s TV police show CHiPs. The show was focused on the daily beat of California Highway Patrol motorcycle patrolmen Jon Baker and Frank "Ponch" Poncherello doing their rounds on Los Angeles freeways.

Forget about the plot, there's something about going undercover to find some dirty cops, but that doesn't really matter. What matters is lots of motorcycle chases and stunts. Too-tight lane splitting, jumping dunes, climbing cars, and driving through RVs. That's what the trailer promises, and hopefully the movie delivers.

Of course the bikes are cool too. The patrol bikes are the California Highway Patrol's currently favoured BMW R1200RT-P, but the bad guys are on the Ducati Hypomotard, at first.

Later in the trailer, we get to see some more Hypomotards dressed up as sweet new patrol bikes as the two stars try to match skills and speed with the baddies.

To help promote the movie, Shepard and Peña appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live. If you've ever wondered whether actors actually learn to ride for movies, then Peña getting dragged out on stage with his Ducati on a dolly should put that to rest.
