Kia to Turbocharge Soul

Kia's hamster pals are back in a video the company posted today to its YouTube channel to promote the 2016 Kia Soul range.

There's nothing out of the ordinary to see here (save for a whole lot of hipsters jamming with a band of rodents) until the 1:45 mark, where you see the range of models listed under the stylized "SOUL" logo, plugging the gas, electric and... turbo(!) variants of the boxy hatchback.

It would appear Kia is gearing up to add a turbocharged version to the lineup, most likely using the 1.6L turbo four-cylinder the company already bolts into its Forte and Optima models, and shared with parent company Hyundai, which uses the motor in the Veloster and Tucson.

We expect the turbo Soul to boast the same 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque as the Forte; we're hopeful the specifications will also include the six-speed manual this engine comes paired with in the two-door Forte Koup.
