Three Driving Fails in One Minute

Sometimes, you get an education in how not to drive so complete and perfect it cannot be ignored.

In this clip uploaded on November 24, 2015 a driver waiting at a light at Erin Mills Parkway and Burnanthorpe Road in Mississauga witnesses some comically bad driving.

A white hatchback that looks like a Hyundai Accent is waiting to turn south onto Erin Mills from Burnanthorpe (a left turn), while another car (which looks to be a Mercedes-Benz C Class) approaches traveling east on Burnhamthorpe. The car going straight decides not to stop at the orange light. He slows for a moment, then accelerates through the intersection, just as the lights turn to red and the hatchback driver goes to complete his turn.

One car traveling straight through an amber/red light, another turning left - you know what's coming, don't you? The Mercedes, having failed to stop for the orange is unseen by the Accent, who turns directly into the Merc, hitting it just behind the rear wheel. The Mercedes driver never lifts off the gas and the wheels spin up, before gripping and launching the car back into the intersection where it hits one more car and then, ironically enough, an ambulance.

So what did we learn?

One: Orange means stop, not "Oh crap, gun it!". This is not like the time Indiana Jones nearly got trapped in the cave, you don't roll under the door. Orange light = stop.

Two: Never assume that a red light means you can complete your left turn. There are many, many people out there who don't know the lesson above.

Three: When you are in a crash, particularly on a slippery cold surface, don't pin the throttle. It works (or rather, looks cool) in NASCAR, not so much on suburban streets!
