2005 Pontiac Montana SV6

by jalynmac on 07-17-2017
I only have one complaint
The seats are comfortable. It is great to drive. Cruise control is my favorite option. My only complaint is that the electrical outlet is so low to the floor that I cannot have anything plugged in that doesn't come straight out. For example those in car diffusers that stick up. I sold mine because it is useless with this vehicle. Other than that, I am happy with it.

Could have been a better design.
After owning this car for 4 years I have come to understand why GM has quit making the Pontiac line.

The seats are comfortable for long drives but thanks to poor planning there are no AC vents for the rear passengers which makes it hard on the driver and passenger in the front as they have to have the AC on full in order to give the rear passengers some cool air.

Fuel mileage is decent for a 6 cylinder and it does perform well compared to some of the other minivans out there.

If you can get it at a decent price and do not have many in the back it is a good overall vehicle.

Neglected Vehicle
I have rated this vehicle on my own 2006 Montana. There are two 2009 Silver Pontiac Montana's at the dealership.....this is the shorter version. I did not even bother to take it for a test drive. It was obvious that this van had not been taken care of by the previous owner. It was extremely dirty inside, missing interior parts and smelled like grease or oil.

Great family vehicle, with loads of room.
This vehicle has served our family very well. Great for long road trips or short trips in town. It has great power and is versatile with seats able to fold or be fully removed. When shopping for a newer replacement, I was unable to find something truly comparable for the price. I ended up buying n SUV, and already miss the cargo capacity of the van. It was not until we started using the SUV that we realized how much we really used / need to space. Can't go wrong with this vehicle - Pontiac did good with this one!

Very smooth, quiet ride, nicely equipped for the year of the vehicle
This Van is a pleasure to drive. It is both smooth and quiet, very comfortable with plenty of room for kids, plants, groceries, or hockey gear.

This is a very good find for anyone with these needs in a vehicle.

Like Taking Your Living Room Out For A Drive!
Great comfort and a great ride!
These vans are perfect for bringing the family together. Whether you're taking a road trip across Canada, or just heading out camping for the weekend.
My wife and I take the seats out of the back and use the van as our "tent" - just add an inflatable mattress!
Good highway mileage for trips to the cottage!
All-round great family utility vehicle!

Original owners review after 8 years.Been a great van. Can't go wrong for the price
This is an honest review from the original owner of a 2007 Montana SV6. From what I see for asking prices in the used market these vans are a great value. This has been a very reliable family vehicle that now has over 250,000 kms. Aside from regular maintenance (which is very cheap for this model I might add) this vehicle has required no major repairs. It's a wonderful highway vehicle and gets really good gas mileage (I average 9L/100km highway and 12L/100km in town) It's also comfortable and roomy. A few complaints- The seat fabric is extremely easy to stain and nearly impossible to clean. The radio has a mind of its own sometimes (volume goes up/down by itself) and the factory supplied remotes are very easily broken. I've replaced ours as our main Family car, but I'm keeping it as a second vehicle.

Terrific
Roomy, clean, comfortable. Well maintained and easy to drive. Can seat seven comfortable. Seats fold down easily for extra trunk space as needed. Side passage door on both sides of van make it easy to get in and out of easily and convenient. Great reliable van for the price.

Very comfortable ride. This would be ideal for carrying kids to their hockey games.
This extended van was acquired in 2009, and was only used to spend winters in Florida. This van only saw three winters in Ottawa previous to that year. It has been very well maintained. The oil was religiously changed every 5000 kms and it has served us very well over the years. The towing package is rated at 3500 lb, but the maximum weight of the boat used was only 1100 lbs plus its 200 lb trailer. It has had no accident over the time we used it.With all three rows of leather seats installed, there is plenty of room in the back to carry groceries, and other bulky items.

It's an amazing van
This van has been trustworthy . We bought it off the lot and have not had any problems . There's been no smoking it . Middle seats fold down so if you need to move anything that helps plus they come out . As well as back seats . Been great with having kids and the DVD such an amazing thing for the kids we have four headsets instead of 2 !! Were just downsizing .

Best vehicle investment I have made!
I used to own a Pontiac TranSport (1995 - 2009) and that baby was so reliable I was spoiled. Went with a few sedans but missed the room and comfort of a van. Purchased a 2009 Pontiac Montana SV6 (younger sibling to the TranSport)recently and so happy to be back!! Love the smooth ride, spacious interior and the computer upgrades! YOU GOT IT PONTIAC!!!

So - So
This van was used by a family of four over several years. We had the old style Trans sport as well previously.

It has been cheap, reliable transportation with the only issue being wheel bearings and the cramped 2nd row leg room.

It's not a Cadillac by any stretch of the imagination, but is a decent vehicle.

Travelling dream
retired and crossed ALL Canada with it(Vancouver Island - Newfoundland). power driver seat is great benefit as very adjustable ...even when seating. never a starting problem. (At most, only one new battery bought-over 8yr period)

OnStar gives confidence of verbal contact for unexpected situations.

highway driving distance is at least 700 km. <might be 900 - cant remember> .avg per dashboard is approximately 12.5 L/100km.

multiple dash readings . I tend to leave it on remaining km(with existing gas) and outside temp . There are about 8 options ...including odometer. One can get miles and farenheit temperature...but NOT my preferred farenheit + km at the same time .

The emerald Green is a delight to see in the sun. It also makes it different from all those drab silver/grey thingys out there.

The length allows an adult to stretch out and sleep comfortably in the back of the van. Granted, an air mattress helps...but those short vans don't have length for an air mattress to lay flat!

My only quibble has been the air conditioning. Even when I bought it ...it took nearly 50 km to get the air feeling "cool". Mechanics said it was working per specifications. Must be all those windows letting/trapping the heat or some such.

Was a great vehicle and save our lives
Bought this vehicle used in 2008 when it had 32,000kms. Pulled a tent trailer from Manitoba to Mount Rushmore, New Orleans and Florida w/ ease. Comfortable and reliable no major problems. But had to replace a wheel hub bearing in the first year I got it and that's it. Just kept up w/ regular maintenance.

In January 2014 was caught in a white-out in the States and got rear-ended by a semi at highway speeds. The vehicle suffered significant damage, we also suffered significant injuries but are alive. I feel that the way the vehicle was designed and the built in safety features saved our lives. Vehicle was beyond repair at only 123,500 km. Was a great vehicle to have.

Real World Review from Owner
The comfort level in this van exceed my expectation compared to other minivans that I have own. However more cushion would have been desirable.

Performance from this 3.9L V6 is outstanding it cruises on the highway with little effort and has plenty of power to get up and pass with no hesitation.

Fuel Economy suffers with the larger engine but still within acceptable ranges for a family hauler.

Chevrolet has struggled with minivans by stepping away from the "generic" styling they came out a cross blend of an SUV and a Minivan...good job.

Like any factory car that rolls of the assembly line they have their quirks. The leather trim on the upholstery is prone to wear out, plastic trim pieces always seem to break and of course brake wear is fast and prominent.

reliable family van
have had the 2000 extended for 13 years now and has been super reliable. surprisingly good fuel economy and a large 100L tank means able to drive 12hrs highway without a fillup. The extended version is spacious enough that with the back seats removed it can carry full sheets of plywood or drywall with the back hatch closed.
