drives nice but is loud on the hiway

The car is a beautiful car inside and out and it handles very well, has lots of speed, the moon roof is a nice feature, but it did have small quarks about it for being such a high end car. The locks on the outside had factory issues and the leather seats seem to be very cheap, the rims were only just coated in chrome. Also the handsfree Bluetooth for the phone was awful the person your speaking to can never hear you, but the stereo is Bose and it is amazing.

Terriffic car at a terriffic price
I didn't think a company could make as good a car as this one for the price they were charging. Thankfully, I was wrong! It is a smooth car with no problems and I am happy I took a chance!

Best car I've ever owned!
As my very first SUV, this has to be the most comfortable car I've ever owned. Traveling for hours is far from being an issue when you can be this snug. On top of it, I've never had any big issues with it (so far) so maintenance isn't too costly, but it certainly uses more fuel than hybrid or smaller cars. Still, I have no regrets!

Very good entry level
It has treated us very well over 6 years of ownership, the only repairs needed have been a seat heater and a shock absorber replaced under warranty. I have replaced tires, brakes and battery which is not uncommon. As a base model it is very well equipped with heated seats and other options. Interior dash is a little hard compared to some of the newer models but overall looks nice. Very happy with fuel efficiency from the 2.4L for the size of the vehicle though it is a little sluggish in power.

Best SUV I Ever Owned!
Have owned 2 other SUV's one a Jeep Liberty and Santa Fe, neither can compare to the Sorento! This vehicle has the comfort ride of a Cadillac and the power and handling of a jeep. My family has been on a few road trips, they are young adults now. Tons of leg room for comfort and storage is a dream The fuel ECO feature is a plus and its the best on gas I have experienced. The Rear Driver Assist is fantastic, it's been always on and saved a small dog once from being run over. The safety of this SUV is the best in it's class. Hands down, the best SUV, ever!!!

Fist Kia
I bought a 2011 Sorento LX AWD about a month ago (January 2016) with 86,000kms. It had been dealer serviced and rust proofed every year from new. I was looking at the Rav4 and Equinox seriously, however decided on the Sorento and so far very pleased with my purchase for many reasons.

I'm surprised how large this SUV feels inside. It is very well equipped with many features at an amazing price. The 2.4L V4 engine performs well in the city and on the highway, lots of pickup when needed. When looking at prices for parts, Kia seems very reasonably priced compared to Toyota or Chevy. A bonus of the V4 2.4L engine is that it has a timing chain, not a belt.

I always use winter tires for the winter, however purchasing this SUV in late January I elected not to buy winter tires yet since there was only a few months of winter left and it hadn't been that bad yet. I went on a road trip north and drove through quite a snowstorm with black ice under the snow on the roads and the All-Season tires mixed with AWD on this SUV handled better than I would have thought. Obviously the optimal performance and safety would be winter tires and AWD mixed with observing proper driving techniques and speed in each condition. I can't wait to see how it will handle next winter when I put on winter tires!

There is one downside and it seems true with almost any vehicle... The estimated fuel economy. For me city driving is averaging 11.3 - 12.5L/100km and by no means do I accelerate hard or stop quickly. On the highway I get average 8.2 - 9.1L/100km going 99km/h or under and 9.7 - 10.9 doing 110-115km on the 400 series highways.

To end the review if you are thinking about the Equinox or Rav4 I would recommend the Sorento for anyone who wants a mid-size vehicle, safety, features for price, performance, and what seems to be a low cost of ownership I think you will be happy too!

Fun to drive, with a few cavets
I don't to drive a lot as I work from home, so Kia is always after my rides. I traded in my 2012 Rondo on a new 2015 Sorento. The ride is impeccable and firm, in my brother's words (he has one as well unbeknownst to me until a few days ago), we upgraded to a luxury vehicle, from a Ford Escape.

In May of this year we decided to take a trip from Ontario to British Columbia, driving all the way. I was afraid the Sorento wasn't up to it but I was pleasantly surprised. Pulling a 1300 pop up trailer with a 4 liter engine we had no problem going out west with the big (ok, huge) hills in northern Ontario. Gas mileage isn't the best, but you will enjoy all the amenities and the drive.

Suprisingly Luxurious
Have had this car for a week now and am delightfully surprised at how comfortable, powerful and smooth driving this vehicle is.

The arm rest is a bit on the low side as I am short and have the seat raised up, this is very low on my concern level though.

Fuel mileage is really good on the highway, could be a bit better in the city.

So far so good! Not looking forward for winter but excited at driving this vehicle in the snow.

2012 Kia Sorento

Trim: LX-V6
by nfssmith on 08-12-2015
Great initially, concerns about long-term durability
I owned a 2012 Sorento LX-V6 in spicy red. It was beautiful inside & out and the initial performance was excellent. There definitely is a lot of cheaper plastic in the interior but some nicer materials also. The V6 engine provided ample power but on my FWD-only model any slippery conditions were sketchy. I HATED the handling of this vehicle in an early season snowfall but once I'd installed good winter tires, the handling became generally adequate.

Over the three years I owned it, I had to have the front strut bushings replaced twice and the passenger seat heater, wiring harness & control switch replaced over 5 separate dealership visits. While this was all handled under the excellent warranty, they gave me major concerns about the long term durability of this vehicle once the warranty runs out.

I also found the brakes required more frequent service than I prefer and as usual the dealership wanted to perform more maintenance more frequently than the manufacturer recommends.

The push button start would occasionally fail to start the vehicle and would need to be stopped and re-tried after several seconds of cranking the engine without success.

The so-called "Smart Key" is a terrible design where the important part (with the buttons & the proximity sensors) can easily become detached from the keyring and lost.

Fuel economy was better than expected, ranging from 8.7 to 11l/100km depending on conditions & driving styles.

In the first year of ownership I was very happy with this vehicle (as was my wife who was the primary driver of this vehicle during that time) but over the 2nd and 3rd years as we approached the maximum warranty mileage, more frequent issues cast strong doubt over the long term price of ownership.

After 3 years I've happily traded this vehicle on a lower mileage Subaru Forester of the same age.

Cannot fault anything
After looking at Mercedes, Toyota, Nissan, VW and Ford, Someone told me to take a look at the Kia Sorento. I did, and it put the rest to shame. For what I paid and for what I received, it makes you wonder how Kia do it - or perhaps the other brands are just ripping us off??? I honestly cannot fault anything. It's a $40,000 car that has all the extras and finishes of a $65K + vehicle. From the paint work, to the solidness of the doors, the leather heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, voice activated multimedia package, etc. I've always bought Mercedes, but I really could not justify an extra $30K just to have the Mercedes name. The service I have received also out shines that I get at Mercedes - which really surprised me. Perhaps the bigger names have become complacent??? Before buying your usual brand, I urge you just to have a look at what Kia has to offer. You'll kick yourself for not looking sooner.

watch out for falling sunroof
Overall experience with the vehicle is so so. The engine has decent power and the overall ride is not bad. I find the leather seats to be a little stiff and after a couple hours of driving they become uncomfortable.

At 18000 km the front half of the panoramic sunroof shattered and collapsed onto the interior cover while my wife was driving. They would not cover under warranty claiming they found a stone chip which is difficult to believe with the window being in a thousand tiny pieces. A little research led us to discover that the US government is investigating several similar complaints in the states and possible action against the company could be pending

There have been several recalls and service bulletins that are beginning to become annoying. We have since moved to an area that does not have a certified dealer and as such will not be purchasing another KIA when it comes to time to move on and probably wouldn't anyways

Best Value for SUV
Sorento gives you more for Less. Very good road manners and does not handle like a big car. The 2.4L 4cyl engine has adequate pick off the line but you may opt for the V6 for quicker highway passing of Towing. Fuel economy is not bad for this size of a vehicle. avg 10.4L/100K combined driving. Happy that it takes regular fuel. Inerior is very roomy and comfortable.Lots of Standard features like Bluetooth and XM radio, Heated front seats, LED turn signals in the mirrors, heated mirrors, Reverse Sonar warning system, Hight adjustable Drivers seat etc. Some worry about the Kia Brand
