The 2017 Subaru Impreza rides on an all-new platform. It’s the second generation of Impreza since the blue-and-yellow cars left the WRC, and it’s a quieter, more refined car, but it still has all-wheel drive and a flat-four engine. So does the all-new car still have that rally-inspired spirit, or will the Impreza end up stopped on stage?

Issue: On certain vehicles, the side reflex reflectors in the headlamp assemblies may not reflect enough light at some viewing angles. Additionally, the low beam reflector in the left headlamp may not reflect light correctly. As a result, the reflectors may not meet the requirements of Canadian regulations. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with halogen headlamps. Safety Risk: Reflex reflectors that do not reflect enough light may make the vehicle less visible to other road users. A low beam that is not reflected correctly could cause glare for oncoming drivers. Both issues could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Subaru will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the engine control module (ECM) may have been programmed incorrectly. As a result, the internal temperature of the ignition coils may increase. This could cause a short circuit and a blown fuse. This may result in a sudden loss of engine power with an inability to immediately restart. Note: This recall replaces WUQ-02 (Transport Canada recall 2019-526). Vehicles that were repaired under that recall also require this repair. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Subaru will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to reprogram the ECM if necessary, and replace the ignition coils. On vehicles with ignition coil damage, if a certain trouble code (DTC) is stored, the front exhaust pipe will also be replaced.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve could fail. If you continue to operate the vehicle after this happens, pieces of the PCV valve may enter the engine and cause an engine failure. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Subaru will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the engine short block assembly.

On certain vehicles, due to software programming within the engine control unit, the operating threshold of the radiator fan used to cool the fuel temperature is not set low enough for the fan to operate at an appropriate temperature when using winter blend fuels. This could result in the fuel vaporizing prematurely under certain outside temperatures and driving conditions, which could cause a decrease in fuel pressure. If this occurs, the engine may stall in certain circumstances while the vehicle is in motion, including low speed, stop-and-go traffic, or at a stop and may not be able to be restarted immediately, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the engine control unit with new software.

On certain vehicles, the rear view camera image may not display properly due to a software issue within the infotainment unit. During the initial boot-up, a blank screen might occur, or if multiple processes occur at the same time, the screen might freeze. This could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property while reversing. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the software of the infotainment unit.
