2008 Saab 9-7X

NEW FOR 2008:

For 2008, the Saab 9-7X adds a new trim line: the Aero performance model, carrying a 390-horsepower 6.0-litre V8.

A sibling to the Chevrolet Trailblazer and GMC Envoy – and to the now-discontinued Buick Rainier – the 9-7X is available as the 4.2i, with 4.2-litre inline six-cylinder; as the 5.3i, with 5.3-litre V8; and as the Aero, with 6.0-litre V8. All use a four-speed Hydra-Matic transmission that's a heavy-duty version in the Aero. The 5.3-litre features GM's Active Fuel Management, which seamlessly deactivates half the cylinders under light load for improved fuel economy. All models are all-wheel drive.

Features on all trim lines include 18-inch aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic Xenon headlamps with washers, cornering lights, roof rack side rails, power sunroof, intermittent front and rear wipers, cargo cover, garage door opener, cruise control, floor mats, keyless entry, auto-dimming rear-view mirror with compass, power-adjustable pedals, leather-wrapped steering wheel, eight-way power heated leather seats, rear 65/35 flip-and-fold rear seat, CD/MP3 stereo with XM Satellite Radio, trailer tow package, fog lamps and OnStar.

The Aero adds 20-inch aluminum wheels and does not have headlamp washers.

The most expensive of the three GM offerings, the 9-7X shares the body-on-frame construction, which allows for heavier-duty towing. Its high level of equipment means that you don't have to go for the largest engine to get more features; the only available options are wheels, six-CD stereo, navigation system and rear-seat DVD. Although it's based on a North American platform and built in Ohio, the 9-7X is trimmed to Saab specifications and includes sporty handling more in keeping with its Scandinavian badge.
