Rebel420 My Nissan Versa Sedan December 01, 2017
Overall Score
I love my car. It has been very reliable since my purchase 2 years ago I have had no problems. I do have some issues with my model. Being that it is the basic version it is missing some key features such as an arm rest in the centre console and the holy crap handle above the driver and passengers side door. Other than that its a great car and handles very well compared to my 1998 Honda Civic.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the driver-front airbag may not have been manufactured properly. Over time, moisture could enter the inflator and cause it not to inflate properly in a crash. Safety Risk: An airbag that doesn't inflate properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the driver-front airbag.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the front turn signal bulbs could be defective. As a result, the bulbs could crack and the turn signals may not work. Safety Risk: Front turn signals that do not work may cause a person not to recognize that the driver intends to turn or change lanes. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Action: Nissan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the lot code of the front turn signal bulbs inspected. All affected bulbs will be replaced.

On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected. Additional Note: This campaign affects 2010-2012 Versa hatchback models and 2010-2011 Versa sedan models. The 2012 model year Nissan Versa sedan is not involved.

On certain vehicles, the front suspension coil springs may have been manufactured with an inadequate phosphorous coating, and/or could have low residual stress in the springs. This inadequate coating could lead to cracking due to coil-to-coil contact when the spring is compressed, which would allow the spring to be more susceptible to corrosion. In some instances coil spring breakage could occur. If ignored, broken front coil spring could damage the front tires and cause rapid air loss and/or tire failure, which could affect the driver's ability to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace both front coil springs. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2015-402.

On certain vehicles, a bad connection at the side airbag sensor connector could cause a momentary communication loss from the side airbag sensor to the Airbag Control Unit (ACU). This would put the system in a backup state, lowering the impact threshold required for a side airbag deployment. If a door is being closed with force while the system is in this backup state, this could cause an unintended side airbag deployment in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, which would increase the risk of injury to occupants. Correction: Dealers will install a jumper harness and replace the side airbag sensor with a new one.

On certain vehicles, the driver's foot could contact the edge of the center console lower trim panel, which could impede smooth accelerator pedal operation. The panel edge could also catch the driver's shoe, potentially resulting in a delay in the driver being able to shift their foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal. This could increase stopping distances, potentially resulting in a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will modify the lower trim panel.

On certain vehicles, due to a manufacturing defect the start/stop button could stick inside of its housing. If this occurs, vibration could cause the electrical components inside the button to contact repeatedly in quick succession and initiate the emergency engine shut off procedure while the vehicle is in motion. This could result in increased steering and braking effort, a loss of motive power and would disable the supplemental restraint systems (SRS), increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and repair defective start/stop switch as necessary.

On certain vehicles, the automatic transmission shifter knob could bind, allowing the shifter to be moved without depressing the brake pedal or the shift select button. This could result in unintentional vehicle movement which, depending on the circumstances, may increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the transmission shifter knob or the entire shifter assembly.

On certain vehicles, the relays in the daytime running light (DRL) circuit could have become contaminated with silicon during the assembly process. This could, in some circumstances, cause one or both of the relays to stop functioning, which would cause one or both of the daytime running lights not to illuminate automatically when the vehicle is driven. Should this condition occur, the lack of DRL function may render the vehicle less visible to other motorists and pedestrians, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the relays for the daytime running lights circuit.

On certain vehicles, the terminals for the passenger side seatbelt tension sensor harness connector may have been damaged during manufacturing process. This could result in a loss of electrical continuity causing the Occupant Detection System to become inoperative. If this occurs, the airbag warning light will come on and the passenger side frontal airbag will not deploy in a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the connector for the seatbelt tension sensor harness.

Certain vehicles equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) fail to comply with CMVSS 101. The odometer and trip record counter are calibrated in miles rather than kilometres. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the odometer to record the distance traveled in kilometres. Where such reprogramming is not feasible or practical, the odometer will be replaced with one recording in kilometres.
