Model Overview
The Nissan NV is versatile. The full-size model seats as many as 12 in a boxy body mounted on a stout truck frame. In later years, there's a fuel-efficient compact cargo version, too, with two seats and front-wheel drive. Either way, the NV is a no-nonsense van designed to haul lots of stuff, people, or both. The full-size model recalls the domestic full-size vans of the 1980s and 1990s with optional V8 power.

Issue:
On certain vehicles, the driver-front airbag inflator could be defective. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. It could also cause the inflator to rupture. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward the occupants or cause damage to the airbag and prevent it from inflating properly.
Safety Risk:
If the vehicle is involved in a crash where the airbag deploys, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury or death.
Corrective Actions:
The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the driver-front airbag inflator or airbag module.

On certain vehicles, the rear view camera system does not return to the default setting when the transmission is shifted to reverse. This could cause a reduction in rear visibility if a driver had previously adjusted the camera display. Canadian regulations require that the rear view image returns to its original setting each time the camera is turned on.
Safety Risk:
Reduced rear visibility could increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective Actions:
The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the rear view camera.

On certain vehicles, bolt securing the seat belt retractors on 2nd, 3rd and 4th row seats may not have been tightened to specifications at time of assembly. This could cause the bolts to loosen over time, potentially resulting in separation of the seat belt retractor from the seat structure. On certain vehicles, a change in the solution used for anti-rust protection (applied during vehicle assembly) resulted in a chemical reaction that affected the foam that is used as a sound dampener in the shifter mechanism. This may cause the foam to adhere to the lever lock, preventing it from returning to the locked position. If this occurs, the transmission gear shift lever could be moved out of the PARK position without depressing the brake pedal. Depending which gear the driver selects, the vehicle could begin to move forward or backward immediately. This movement could result in property damage, or cause the vehicle to strike a bystander, potentially resulting in personal injury. Correction: Dealers will remove the foam dampener from the shifter mechanism.

On certain vehicles, the transmission lever gear selector plate lock clip may have been installed incorrectly during vehicle assembly. Over time, the clip could disengage from the steering column bracket, allowing the transmission cable to move out of position. If this occurs, the transmission shift lever will not match the actual gear position. The driver would be able to remove the key from the ignition, even if the transmission is not actually in the PARK position. This could allow the vehicle to roll away, which could result in a crash causing personal injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, reposition the clip.

On certain vehicles, the engine oil cooler stud (onto which the oil filter is mounted) could fail. This could cause an engine oil leak, which could illuminate the instrument panel's engine oil warning lamp. Abnormal noise and rough engine performance may also be noticed and, in the worst case, the engine could fail and stop suddenly while the vehicle is in motion. Engine failure would result in lost vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the engine oil cooler connector stud.
