Issue: On certain vehicles, road salt can corrode the front cross-member (subframe). As a result, a lower control arm could eventually detach from the cross-member. This could cause a loss of vehicle control. Safety Risk: A loss of control can create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mitsubishi will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the front cross-member (subframe). If no significant corrosion is found, the dealer will spray a sealing and anti-corrosion coating both inside and on the cross-member. If significant corrosion is found, the dealer will replace the cross-member.

On certain vehicles, water may drain from the windshield cowl area onto the front wiper link ball joint. Over time, this could result in corrosion and/or wear to the joint, which could result in the separation of the wiper link ball. If separation were to occur, the windshield wipers could become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the wiper link rod with a countermeasure one, and will inspect the wiper motor crank arm and replace as necessary.

On certain vehicles, insufficient rust prevention to the parking brake shaft and insufficient sealing performance of the rear brake caliper boot could allow water to penetrate inside these components causing corrosion. As a result, the parking brake shaft may become stuck causing brake dragging and/or decreased parking brake performance. Additionally, the automatic adjuster for the brake pad clearance of the rear brake caliper with the built-in parking brake may not work correctly. These conditions could lead to a vehicle rollaway, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and repair the rear brakes as necessary.

On certain vehicles, water may drain from the windshield cowl area and potentially collect in the area of the wiper motor breathing hole. If the wiper motor is not operating, water could potentially enter the wiper motor through the breathing hole. If this occurs, over time, it could result in corrosion and/or an electrical conduction failure, both of which could result in the wiper motor not operating. If the wiper motor were to stop operating, the windshield wipers would become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the wiper motor with an upgraded wiper motor that will prevent water intrusion.

On certain vehicles, the lap end attachment fastener on the front passenger seat belt may not have been torqued to proper specification. If the tightening torque of the fastener is too low, road vibrations could cause the fastener to loosen further. If this were to occur, the fastener may not properly restrain the front passenger occupant in the event of a crash, which could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant in a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect the torque value of the front passenger seat belt lap end attachment, and correct as necessary.

On certain vehicles, the stabilizer link bracket on the left front strut may have been improperly welded during the manufacturing process. As a result, the bracket may detach from the strut and damage the tire and/or brake hose. Tire failure could cause the driver to lose vehicle control, whereas a damaged brake hose could cause a loss of brake fluid, which may increase stopping distances. Both issues could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the left front strut assembly.

On certain vehicles, a wiring harness for the secondary fuel tank level sender may have been omitted during assembly. This would cause the fuel gauge to indicate a greater quantity of fuel than what remains in the tank. As a result, if the tank were to become empty, engine stalling could occur which, in conjunction with traffic, road conditions, and driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install the correct fuel level sender harness.

Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices and CMVSS 114 - Theft Protection and Rollaway Protection. Due to an incorrectly adjusted brake light switch, the brake lights may remain on constantly or may illuminate intermittently, or the vehicle could be shifted out of the park position without depressing the brake pedal.
