Unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Future Toyota Adventure Concept – or FT-AC for short – is aimed at people who enjoy an active lifestyle, especially weekend getaways, the automaker said.
The concept is all about versatility, including a safari-style cargo roof rack and an ability to go off-roading thanks to the torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system and skid plates, Toyota said.
The crossover-style concept has a bold front end, with a wide grille and LED headlights.
And the fog lights aren’t just fog lights on the FT-AC. If you are out in the woods and need a flashlight, just pop one out and off you go. They can even be attached to the mountain bikes adventurers would be hauling with them thanks to the integrated bike rack, which is retractable.
The concept was designed on a long wheelbase and a wide stance, and includes broad fender flares that shield the body from potential damage when off-roading. It also features 20-inch wheels and all-terrain tires.
And you will be able to record your adventures with the infrared cameras that are mounted on the side mirrors (they are also portable), and the FT-AC has a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.
As conceived, the FT-AC is a gasoline-powered vehicle, but Toyota said it could also offer a hybrid powertrain. The all-wheel drive system will come with a variable terrain-response settings and 4-wheel lock functionality to manage the traction control and throttle response for maximum grip.
The FT-AC is seen as a design experiment, one the company said represents “the next level in Toyota’s adventure-loving line-up of concept vehicles.”
Whether any become reality remains to be seen.
