The one-millionth Porsche 911 has just rolled off the line in Zuffenhausen. The special car came in a special colour, with a few special touches looking back at a long model history.
Dr Wolfgang Porsche has been involved with the 911 since the beginning. "Fifty-four years ago, I was able to take my first trips over the Grossglockner High Alpine Road with my father. The feeling of being in a 911 is just as enjoyable now as it was then."
More than half a century and one million cars later, the styling is still iconic, and the engine is still in the wrong place.
Porsche says that more than 70 percent of all 911s built are "still ready to drive today," a testament to the love for and collector status of the car.
The one-millionth 911 is a 2017 Carrera S with a 450 hp flat six and seven-speed manual. It was finished by Porsche Exclusive, Porsche's in-house customization branch. The exterior is a special Irish Green paint. That colour was special for one of the first 911s and has been on the options list since 1965.
Inside, the leather interior has seats featuring the original 911's pepita pattern, along with a handmade mahogany steering wheel. The dash gets a special "911 Nr. 1,000,000 " badge and a silver surround.
The millionth car will stay with Porsche, going into the company's museum collection. Before that, though, it will see a world tour including the Nürburgring, the Scottish Highlands, as well as the US and China.
