Kia Recalls Sorento SUV for Faulty Front Seats

Korean car manufacturer Kia has recalled a few hundred of its Sorento mid-size SUV to replace seat components that may have been improperly manufactured.

Transport Canada says that in 453 examples of the Sorento sold as 2016 models, the driver's seatback may have been built with insufficient welds. Seats with this flaw may not stand up to the stresses of a rear-end collision and could fail structurally, increasing the risk of injury to the driver.

Kia is asking its dealers to inspect the seats in the affected vehicles, and replace the seatback frames where necessary.
