It's only been a week since celebrating their return to the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but Ford isn't taking long to shout it from the rooftops. Or in this case, driveways. Ford has revealed a livery for the new Ford GT that celebrates their latest win by showing us their first win. The Heritage '66 package is based on the GT40 that Chris Amon and Bruce McLaren drove to lead Ford's 1-2-3 sweep of the 1966 running of the 24-hour endurance race.
The new car starts with shadow black paint, and then accents it with silver stripes. There is also a generous helping of exposed carbon fiber. If you want your throwback paint scheme to look a bit more current trendy you can opt for flat black instead of the shiny paint. The wheels are a satin gold finish with contrasting black lug nuts and the car gets a nice big white meatball on the side with the number-two that the original car wore.
Inside is matching black leather with Ford GT logos on the steering wheel and seats. The seat back cross brace, shift paddles, and instrument panel get a gold finish, while the seat belts are a unique blue webbing. The door sills, air vents, and center console are all exposed carbon fiber. Of course, the special edition will have a numbered dash plaque.
The Heritage '66 pack will only be available for the 2017 model year. It isn't limited beyond that, however, so it is possible (but highly unlikely) that all 250 made for 2017 could get the same livery. Expect the actual number to be fewer. The black and silver design isn't the most iconic GT livery, that would be the pale blue and orange of sponsor Gulf Oil, but it is the most significant as it was the first winner. This isn't the first recent tribute Ford has issued to the car, with a special edition Xbox One controller sold last fall. The 250 lucky buyers who will be able to purchase a 2017 Ford GT still haven't been revealed, but it will be available soon.
