BMW is getting set to bring to market the first 7 Series model to benefit from its M Performance treatment.
While it's not quite an M7, the M760Li gives BMW a direct competitor to Audi's S8, and Mercedes-Benz's S 63 4MATIC, thanks to a twin-turbocharged 6.6L V12 engine rated at 600 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. That's 44 hp and 37 lb-ft more than the last 760Li which used a 6.0L engine.
That power gets routed through an eight-speed transmission and xDrive AWD to give the M760Li the potential to do the zero-to-100 km/h sprint in 3.9 seconds, aided by a launch control system. BMW says the car's top speed is governed to 250 km/h.
Helping the V12 delivering an "emotionally rich" engine sound is an exhaust system that uses rear silencers and electronically-actuated flaps to allow everything from "maximum refinement to a full-bodied 12-cylinder soundtrack.
BMW says a single air-to-water intercooler helps reduce turbo lag, and an efficient oil pump only supplies as much oil to the engine's internals as is required at any given time.
Standard kit includes BMW's Active Comfort Drive with Preview suspension, which is linked with air suspension and dynamic damper control to deliver a combination of handling dynamics and ride comfort. An adaptive mode uses the car's navigation system and a forward-looking camera to allow the suspension to anticipate road conditions.
The M760Li gets an aero kit that includes a unique front apron with air intakes, active air louvers behind the kidney grille openings, and an M-specific rear spoiler.
The M760Li is the third member of the sixth-generation 7 Series introduced as a 2016 model; it joins the existing 750i xDrive and 750Li xDrive models. BMW says it will announce pricing and an on-sale date for the M760Li xDrive "closer to its market launch."
