It will only arrive in Canada next summer, but the third generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLS is already turning heads.
The new design was unveiled Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show, with a shark-like nose and styling based on the brand’s new design language.
It also features a new engine, a 3.0-litre inline-six-cylinder engine that comes with a feature called EQ Boost for the CLS 450 4MATIC. The engine is rated at 362 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque, plus another 184 from the EQ Boost.
The EQ Boost works to assist the engine when accelerating and makes it possible to drive without the engine in operation, Mercedes-Benz said. It also recovers energy by what the company calls high-efficiency recuperation, which will allow the vehicle to have fuel savings that are equivalent to a hybrid.
It comes standard with features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MB Link, wireless charging, and a 12.3-inch display.
The CLS also features LED high performance headlamps, 19-inch light-alloy wheels, AMG styling and a fully digital cockpit.
And for the first time, the CLS Coupe is a five-seater, and the backrests can be folded flat in a 40/20/40 split when needed.
There’s a host of standard safety features like Brake Assist, Attention Assist and occupant protection system PRE-SAFE.
Optional safety equipment in the Driving Assistance Package consists of Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Steering Assist, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Pre-Safe Plus.
