History / Overview
Introduced in 2017, the Volvo S90 is a full-size car model that serves as the flagship for Volvo's sedan lineup.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
For 2020, Volvo has streamlined the S90 lineup: last year's entry-level Momentum trim is gone, so all cars now come in Inscription trim. The T8 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) drivetrain gets a larger battery pack, and the car's cross traffic alert system adds rear automatic braking as standard.
Available Trims
The 2020 Volvo S90 Inscription offers two powertrain options. The T6 uses a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that is turbo- and supercharged; and the T8 gets the PHEV, which pairs that engine with electric power. In both cases, an 8-speed transmission and AWD are standard.
Standard Features
The S90's exterior comes dressed with power-folding side mirrors, fog lights, and 19-inch wheels and tires.
Interior and convenience features include keyless entry with hands-free trunk opening, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a garage door opener, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, four-zone climate control, power rear sun shades, a panoramic sunroof, Nappa leather upholstery, power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats with memory and lumbar, walnut wood and stitched dash trim, and auto-dimming mirrors.
S90's standard safety package comprises forward collision detection with automatic braking, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, front and rear park assist, road sign information, rain-sensing wipers, tire pressure monitoring, the Pilot Assist driver aid suite, and active LED headlights with washers and cornering lights.
Key Options
A luxury package adds ventilated rear seats, massaging front seats, a nubuck headliner and leather-trimmed sunvisors and grab handles, and an upgraded rear-seat armrest.
The S90's premium package brings an active park assist system, a heated steering wheel, blind spot monitoring with cross traffic alert, 360-degree camera views, heated rear seats, heated wiper blades, and a head-up display.
Fuel Economy
Volvo's fuel consumption estimates for the S90 are 11.3/7.5 L/100 km (city/highway) for the T6 powertrain. The T8 is rated at 8.3/7.5 L/100 km when running in hybrid mode, and 3.7 Le/100 km in EV mode.
Competition
With the S90, Volvo competes with a set of mid-range luxury sedans including the BMW 5 Series, Audi's A6, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Acura RLX, Jaguar's XF, and the Lexus GS.
