The Subaru Crosstrek PHEV (plug-in hybrid) is the brand’s second-ever hybrid model, following a regular hybrid version offered in the 2010s. Subaru introduced the PHEV in 2020, two years after this second-generation Crosstrek design hit the road. Depending on where you live in Canada, you may have trouble finding one of these: Subaru only stocks it in provinces where the local government offers purchase incentives for plug-in vehicles.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
There are no changes to the Crosstrek PHEV for 2022.
The Crosstrek PHEV comes in a single Limited trim level. Power is from a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that works with an electric motor fed by a battery you can plug in to charge for up to 27 km of all-electric driving.
The Crosstrek PHEV Limited’s features are effectively the same as those in the top-line gas-powered model. You get an 8.0-inch touchscreen with navigation, dual-zone auto A/C, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, an eight-speaker stereo, auto-dimming rearview mirror, power driver’s seat, leather upholstery, and heated front seats. Outside, there is all-LED exterior lighting, steering responsive headlights, passive keyless entry, front wiper de-icer, and 18-inch wheels.
Also included is the Eyesight safety suite of automatic high beams, forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep assist.
Subaru’s fuel consumption estimates for the Crosstrek PHEV are 6.6/6.8 L/100 km (city/highway) when running as a gas-electric hybrid, and 2.6 Le/100 km in all-electric mode.
