Issue: This recall is for certain replacement parts for use on Ram Heavy Duty trucks that were sold by dealer parts departments. This recall is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. If the outboard steering linkage jam nut is not welded according to the Dealer Service Instructions for safety recall V06, it could loosen and allow one end of the drag link to separate from the adjuster sleeve. A drag link separation can result in a loss of steering control. The following 4x4 style steering system parts are included in this recall: Drag Link Assembly (Part # 68369907AA) Jam Nut (Part # 06510749AA and Part # 06510750AA) Drag Link Outer (Part # 68111301AA) Drag Link Adjuster (Part #68111302AA) Drag Link Inner (Part # 68111304AA) Safety Risk: A loss of steering control could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: FCA Canada will notify potential owners using dealer sales records. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the drag link assembly. If the drag link is not welded but the jam nuts are properly tightened, the nuts will be welded to the adjuster sleeve. If the nuts are not properly tightened, the drag link assembly will be assessed for replacement. If a component or assembly is returned, FCA will reimburse the customer.

FCA Canada has determined that some Mopar gooseneck trailer hitch ball kits may not fully seat and lock into the truck hardware as intended. This can be caused by dirt and/or debris accumulation on top of the gooseneck ball mount, in the mounting hole and/or tolerance stack-up. If this occurs, the gooseneck ball may appear to be locked in place when it is not. If the gooseneck ball is not locked in place, under certain driving conditions it may detach from the truck. Affected parts are the Mopar 2 5/16‘’ Gooseneck Ball Kit part number 82213631 and Mopar 3” Gooseneck Ball Kit part number 82213632. Correction: FCA Canada will conduct a voluntary field action on all affected parts. The remedy for this condition is currently under development. On certain 2008-2011 Ram 2500 and 3500 4x4, Ram 3500 cab chassis 4x2 and 4x4, and 2008 Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4x4 vehicles, the left outer tie rod ball stud could fracture. Additionally, other 2003-2008 Ram vehicles may have received the affected tie rod as a replacement part during service, and are therefore also involved in this campaign. Although this condition tends to occur when making a tight turn during low speed parking lot type maneuvers, tie rod failure could result in a loss of directional stability. A loss of steering control could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the left outer tie rod end and tighten the track bar bolt. Note: The tie rod replacement portion of this recall was superseded by recall 2013-396.

On certain vehicles equipped with a diesel engine and hydroboost brake system (which utilizes the power steering system pressure for brake assist), the power steering reservoir cap may have excessive vent pressure levels, which could result in a brake pedal that is slow to return once depressed. This could increase brake light illumination times and cause confusion to a following road user which, in conjunction with traffic, road conditions and driver's reactions, may result in a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the power steering reservoir cap.

Incorrect information on the certification label could lead to the vehicle being loaded improperly, which could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: New labels will be provided to the owners of vehicle affected by this recall. They can install it themselves or have a dealer do for them.
