Overall Score
Reliable and powerful for the last 8 years. Negatives. The power train died in the 5th year replaced under warrenty. Flaws- the adjustable steering wheel mechanism has a sprocket that is made out of plastic and not steel. Over time the plastic sproket broke and it is crazy expensive to replace. If they only used a steel piece instead of a plastic piece , no problem. The GPS map needs a cheaper costing upgrade to keep map current. Charging $900 for an upgrade to the software is an abusive cost for a gps update. This vehicle had great power when it came to towing my pop up trailer. Large tires make for a more expensive tire replacement but all in all it is the price of admission to having a higher end vehicle. I would buy again.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the antilock brake system (ABS) actuator pump may leak brake fluid and malfunction. This would cause the ABS warning lamp to turn on. If this problem is not fixed, damage to the ABS actuator could result in a short circuit. Note: This is a replacement and expansion of Transport Canada recall 2018-486. All vehicles that did not have the ABS actuator pump replaced under that recall require this repair. Safety Risk: A short circuit could increase the risk of a fire, even while parked. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail with an interim notice. A final repair is not yet available. If the ABS warning light stays on for 10 seconds or longer, you should park your vehicle outdoors away from other vehicles or structures. You should also call Nissan or Infiniti Roadside assistance to have your vehicle towed to a dealer for repair. A second notice will be sent to you once the final repair parts are available. This letter will advise you to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the ABS actuator.

On certain vehicles, the brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) may become contaminated by a reaction between brake fluid and internal anti-corrosion coatings. This could cause an internal control valve to stick open, potentially increasing brake pedal travel and/or stopping distances. This may create an increased risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 brake fluid. The HCU will then be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition. If necessary, HCU will be replaced.

On certain vehicles, the intake air ducts, which are connected to the intermediate resonator in the air intake system of the engine, may separate from the resonator with engine movement. This separation occurs due to the premature ageing of the material used in the intake air ducts which causes excessive shrinking. If the air duct pulls off the resonator, the airflow meter will not accurately measure the intake airflow rate, which could result in unstable idling, poor acceleration, or engine stalling. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the intake air duct with an updated version.

On certain vehicles, a varistor in the Occupant Classification System (OCS) control unit located in the passenger seat cushion may have been manufactured incorrectly. Under certain conditions, this could cause an interruption of signal between the OCS and the Airbag control unit (ACU). This could result in the passenger airbag being suppressed. The (red) supplemental airbag warning light would flash & the (amber) front passenger airbag status light would illuminate to alert the vehicle operator, however in case of a crash a suppressed airbag could result in personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will test the signal between the OCS & ACU and if necessary will replace the seat cushion containing OCS hardware.

If the vehicle battery becomes significantly discharged and the voltage in the electrical system drops (because, for example, the ignition is left in the "ON" position for a significant length of time without the engine running), the Airbag Control unit (ACU) is designed to suppress the passenger airbag and illuminate the passenger airbag status light. When the battery recharges and correct voltage is restored, the ACU is designed to reactivate the passenger airbag system. On certain vehicles, incorrect software programming may not allow the ACU to reactivate the airbag as intended. This can result in the passenger airbag being suppressed without lighting the warning indicator and the airbag status light. Failure of the airbag to inflate during a crash could increase the passenger seat occupant's risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the ACU.

On certain vehicles equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), an open circuit in the alternator can occur due to wire fatigue caused by movement of the rotor coil during rapid changes in engine speed. Higher engine compartment temperature in the Murano compared to other Nissan models may also be a contributing factor to the wire fatigue. When an open circuit occurs in the alternator, the charge warning and brake warning lamps come on. If the driver does not seek immediate assistance and continues to drive the vehicle in this condition, the vehicle will operate normally for about one hour. After this time, the battery voltage will drop to a level that causes the engine control module to go into a fail safe mode. During fail safe mode, which lasts about ten minutes, vehicle speed will be reduced due to the throttle plate being held in a fixed position. After this time period, the engine will stop running. Correction: Dealers will replace the alternator with an updated version.
