History/Overview

Nissan redesigned the Maxima sedan in 2016 and refreshed it in 2019. Historically, the Maxima is Nissan's poshest sedan, but it now also serves as a bridge between the mainstream Nissan range and the upscale Infiniti brand.

What's New / Key Changes from Last Year

Nissan has eliminated last year's SV and Platinum Reserve trim levels, leaving a trio of packages.

Available Trims

The Maxima range includes SL, SR and Platinum trims. All three use a 3.5L V6 engine and continuously variable automatic transmission. The sport-oriented SR gets steering wheel-mounted shift paddles for manual shift control.

Standard Features

Maxima SL comes with 18-inch wheels, automatic on/off LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED taillight signature, heated side mirrors, dual-panel panoramic sunroof, 7.0-inch advanced driver assist display, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, intelligent cruise control, rear door alert, auto-dimming rearview mirror, passive keyless entry, remote engine start, LED map and reading lights, adjustable ambient lighting, eight-way driver and four-way front passenger power seat adjustments, heated front and rear seats and steering wheel, leather upholstery, leather-trimmed steering wheel and shifter, an 11-speaker stereo, active noise cancellation with active sound enhancement, front and rear USB ports, forward collision warning with emergency braking, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, rear automatic emergency braking and automatic high beams.

SR gets a sport-tuned suspension, 19-inch wheels, LED fog lights, rear spoiler, garage door opener, lane keeping assist, driver adjustable thigh support, ventilated front seats, premium leather seats and steering wheel with Alcantara inserts, aluminum pedals and forward pedestrian detection.

Platinum reverts to the SL's standard suspension and loses the SR's paddle shifters and rear spoiler. It gets trim-specific 19-inch wheels, auto-dimming side mirrors with reverse-gear tilt-down, NissanConnect services, 360-degree around-view monitor, rain-sensing wipers, power rear-window sunshade, driver's seat memory, premium leather seats with diamond-quilted inserts and premium leather steering wheel, mahogany wood trim and lane departure prevention.

Fuel Economy

The Nissan Maxima's fuel consumption estimates are 11.6/7.9 L/100 km (city/highway).

Competition

The Maxima fits into a small field of sedans that bridge the gap between mainstream and luxury, including the Toyota Avalon, Volkswagen Arteon and Buick LaCrosse.
