History/Overview

Kia made a name for itself in the minivan segment as early as 2002 with the Sedona. To say the least, it has come a long way since then. We got a second generation in 2006, but we had to wait until 2015 to see the third iteration of the product make its debut and, in the process, give credibility to the offering. In 2019, Kia slightly refreshed its Sedona, so there are no changes to report for 2020.

Available Versions

There are four possible configurations for the Sedona: LX, LX+, SX and SX Tech. Each benefits from a 3.3-litre V6 engine, which is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Standard Equipment

With the LX version, the buyer gets 17-inch wheels, LED position lights, heated and retractable mirrors, an eight-seat configuration, eight power adjustments for the driver's seat, lumbar support, heated front seats, a tilt and telescopic steering column, a heated steering wheel and leather-wrapped shift selector, a mirror that offers a view of the rear seats, as well as air conditioning with controls for the rear seats. You also get a seven-inch screen for the multimedia system, a six-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto applications, cruise control, keyless entry, a 3.5-inch information screen in the instrument cluster, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a refrigerated glove box, driver's side blind spot alert, as well as parking sensors.

With the LX+ variant, fog lights are added, eight adjustments for the front passenger seat, sunshades for the rear side windows, wireless charging for cell phones, passive keyless entry, hands-free tailgate opening, as well as power-sliding side doors.

Moving up to the SX model, the wheel size increases to 18 inches and the lights get LEDs. This version also features a sunroof, chrome door handles (interior and exterior), three distinct zones for air conditioning, satellite radio, drive modes, connected vehicle services, a seven-inch screen at instrument cluster height, as well as blind spot and rear cross-traffic alerts.

Finally, with the SX Tech trim, you get automatic low beam headlights, LED position lights, leather seats, adaptive cruise control, electronic parking brake, lane departure warning, a driver attention system, as well as forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking.

Fuel Economy

The Sedona's fuel consumption ratings are 12.7 litres per 100 kilometres for city driving, 9.9 litres for highway driving.

Competition

In the segment, the competition doesn't change often. Thus, we find the mother of all minivans, the Dodge Grand Caravan, as well as the Chrysler Pacifica, the Honda Odyssey, and the Toyota Sienna.
