Give it the beans from a dig, and the Infiniti QX30’s driveline does a couple of things that are pretty swell. The all-wheel drive (AWD) system pre-engages all four wheels, so there’s full traction from the first inch of movement. The turbocharger gets up to speed in a jiff, cramming the intercooler, manifolds and cylinders fully with cool, compressed air by time the tachometer reads 1,200 rpm. From just off idle, this sends nearly 260 lb-ft of torque to the road, and the QX30 fires ahead as if it was rear-ended by a rocket-propelled rhinoceros.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the universal joint connection on the steering shaft could loosen over time. As a result, there could be noise or a change in steering feel. If a driver continues to operate the vehicle, the bearing could separate from the universal joint and cause a loss of steering control. Safety Risk: A loss of steering could create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Infiniti will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the lower steering shaft.

On certain vehicles, electrostatic discharge, when combined with a broken clock spring and insufficient grounding of the steering components, could lead to an inadvertent deployment of the driver's frontal airbag. Unintended airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, could startle the driver, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will add sufficient grounding to the steering components. Note: A broken clock spring would result in a driver airbag warning message appearing in the instrument cluster, as well as a red airbag warning lamp illuminating.

On certain vehicles, the generant mix ratio of the driver side curtain airbag may not meet specifications. In the event of a crash, an improper generant mix could prevent the side curtain airbag from deploying properly, which would increase the risk of injury to the driver. Correction: Dealers will replace the driver side curtain airbag assembly.

Certain vehicles may have been equipped with a passenger frontal airbag inflator that does not meet specifications. This could cause the passenger frontal airbag to fail to deploy in the event of a crash, which could increase the risk of injury to the occupants. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag assembly.
