Like many of Hyundai’s models, the Tucson has become one of Canada’s most popular vehicles in a fairly short period of time. You can thank the company’s tenacious desire to prove it can build vehicles of a quality equal to – or better than – those from more established brands from Japan, North America, and Europe.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is an all-new model, sharing its basic design with the fourth-generation Tucson that also arrived this year. It’s accompanied by gasoline and plug-in hybrid variants, each of which are covered in their own buyer’s guide entries.
Hyundai sells the Tucson Hybrid in Luxury and Ultimate trim levels. Both are powered by a 1.6L turbo four-cylinder engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and AWD.
Tucson Hybrid Luxury standard kit includes a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and passive keyless entry.
Inside, Luxury trim gets leather upholstery, heated front seats with driver’s power adjustments, ventilated front and heated rear seats, ambient lighting, digital gauges, 8.0-inch touchscreen, eight-speaker audio, auto-dimming rearview mirror, hands-free tailgate, heated steering wheel, and dual-zone A/C.
The standard safety package comprises rain-sensing wipers, adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance with pedestrian/cyclist detection, lane follow/keep assist, driver attention warning, automatic high beams, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, rear occupant alert, and rear parking sensors.
Ultimate trim adds a power front passenger seat, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, front/rear parking sensors, remote park assist, blind-view and surround-view cameras, and highway driving assist.
Hyundai’s fuel consumption estimates for the Tucson Hybrid are 6.3/6.6 L/100 km (city/highway).
With the Tucson Hybrid, Hyundai joins a growing class of gas-electric compact crossovers that also includes the Ford Escape Hybrid, and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. On the segment’s fringes, you’ll find the Kia Niro wagon, which comes standard with a hybrid powertrain.
