Introduced last year, the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is the first-ever gas-electric version of this popular crossover SUV, building on the South Korean brand’s push into the electrified vehicle marketplace. There are also gas-only and plug-in hybrid versions, which are covered in separate buyer’s guide entries.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
There are no changes to the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid for 2022.
Hyundai offers the Santa Fe Hybrid in Preferred and Luxury trim levels. Power is from a 1.6L turbo four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, which connect to a six-speed automatic transmission and AWD.
Preferred trim comes with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, heated side mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone A/C, and a heated steering wheel. Among the Santa Fe Hybrid’s tech features are an 8.0-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and passive keyless entry.
Safety features include adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert with pedestrian detection and automatic braking, lane keeping assist, lane follow assist, driver attention warning, automatic high beams, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, safe exit assist, rear occupant alert, and rear parking sensors.
Luxury trim adds 19-inch wheels, LED taillights, rain-sensing wipers, a power front passenger seat, ventilated front seats with leg cushion extensions, heated rear seats, wireless charging, a digital gauge display, hands-free tailgate, and LED interior lighting.
A Preferred Trend package brings a panoramic sunroof, leather seats, LED taillights, a power front passenger seat, remote-folding rear seats, and LED cabin lighting.
Hyundai’s fuel consumption estimates for the Santa Fe Hybrid are 7.1/7.9 L/100 km (city/highway).
While the Santa Fe Hybrid competes in a broad segment of mid-sized crossovers, it faces few direct gas-electric competitors, among them the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (which is technically a compact, albeit a spacious one), and the Kia Sorento.
