History/Overview
The Hyundai Accent is well into its fifth generation following a redesign in 2018. This subcompact has been around since the mid-1990s, when it replaced the Excel.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
For 2020, the Accent gets a new engine, called Smartstream, and an optional continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) to replace last year's six-speed auto. The new drivetrain promises better fuel economy.
In other news, Hyundai has discontinued the sedan body style for 2020, leaving the hatchback to carry the Accent name on its own.
Available Trims
Hyundai offers the 2020 Accent hatchback in Essential, Preferred and Ultimate trims. Essential and Preferred start out with a six-speed manual transmission that options to the new CVT, and Ultimate is standard with the CVT. The new 1.6L Smartstream motor is standard across the board.
Standard Features
Accent Essential comes with 15-inch steel wheels with covers, variable intermittent front wipers, a rear wiper, six-way driver and four-way front passenger seats, a split-folding rear bench seat, a 5.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, a four-speaker stereo with USB and auxiliary inputs, tilt steering, and power door locks.
Preferred trim adds alloy wheels, automatic headlights, a chrome grille, heated front seats, air conditioning, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, tilt-and-telescopic steering, cruise control, keyless entry, a rear-seat USB charging port, and power windows.
Finally, Accent Ultimate includes forward collision warning with automatic braking, 17-inch wheels, fog lights, LED headlights with LED accents, a sunroof, premium cloth seating, a six-speaker stereo, leather-trimmed steering wheel and shifter, automatic climate control, passive keyless entry, and a trip computer.
Key Options
An Essential comfort package bundles the automatic transmission with heated/power side mirrors, Bluetooth, air conditioning, power windows, and front map lights.
Fuel Economy
Hyundai's fuel consumption estimates are 7.8/6.1 L/100 km (city/highway) with the manual transmission, and 7.3/6.0 with the CVT.
Competition
The Hyundai Accent goes up against the Honda Fit, the Toyota Yaris, the Kia Rio, and the Nissan Versa Note.
