History/Overview
Honda’s most recent crossover addition is the mid-sized Passport, which arrived in 2019 to fill a gap between the three-row Pilot and compact CR-V. Heavily based on the Pilot, the Passport is shorter in length and taller, and lacks third-row seating.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, Honda has given the Passport a refresh with updated styling, a new Trailsport trim level, and rear seat and seatbelt reminders for all trims. You can also now order an HPD Edition package that brings a sportier look.
Available Trims
Honda offers the Passport in Sport, TrailSport (which replaces last year’s EX-L), and Touring trims. In all, power is from a 3.5L V6 engine, nine-speed transmission, and AWD.
Standard Features
Sport trim starts with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights/taillights, sunroof, auto-dimming mirror, digital gauges, passive keyless entry, three-zone A/C, power driver’s seat, heated front seats and steering wheel, seven-speaker audio, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration.
All Passport models come with a safety suite of forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise, lane keeping assist, automatic high beams, and a LaneWatch blind spot camera.
Trailsport gets a wider track for added stability, along with orange contrast interior stitching, power tailgate, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, power front passenger seat, and wireless phone charging.
Touring adds blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, hands-free tailgate, 20-inch wheels, ventilated front seats, and navigation.
Key Options
The HPD (Honda Performance Development) Edition package adds special door trim, fender flares, graphics, and a more aggressive wheel design.
Fuel Economy
As of this writing, Honda had not published fuel consumption estimates for the 2022 Passport. However, we anticipate that Sport and Touring will carry forward their 2021 ratings of 12.5/9.8 L/100 km (city/highway). We’ll update this article once Honda confirms the new TrailSport trim’s ratings.
Competition
With the Passport, Honda competes with the Ford Edge, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, Chevrolet Blazer, Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, Mazda CX-9, Toyota Venza, Nissan Murano, and Subaru Outback.
