NEW FOR 2009:
- Redesigned model
For 2009, the Honda Fit has been redesigned. Its facelift gives it a larger windshield and front quarter windows; inside, the rear "Magic Seat" now has a one-motion dive-down mechanism that allows it to be folded flat with a single lever, even when the front seats are pushed all the way back. The new Fit also uses a new, more powerful 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine, with horsepower rising from 109 hp to 117, and torque from 105 to 106 lb-ft, while fuel economy remains virtually the same.
Available only as a four-door hatchback, the Fit uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with five-speed manual transmission or optional five-speed automatic. Trim lines are DX, LX and Sport.
Features on the DX include 15-inch steel wheels, power mirrors, two-speed intermittent wipers, rear washer/wiper, power windows with driver's side auto up/down, tilt and telescopic steering column, fuel consumption display, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, front stabilizer bar, and 60/40 split-folding rear "Magic Seat".
The LX adds 15-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, body-colour side mirrors and door handles, roofline spoiler, power locks with keyless entry, cruise control, and rear speakers.
The Sport adds 16-inch alloy wheels, front and rear stabilizer bars, security system, chrome headlight bezels, chrome exhaust finisher, fog lamps, underbody spoiler kit, leather-wrapped wheel, six speakers and USB jack.
The Fit's "Magic Seat" is a 60/40 folding rear seat combined with a lowered floor, made possible by relocating the fuel tank to an otherwise unused midsection of the chassis. The seat can be folded flat into "utility" mode, into "long" mode with rear and front passenger seat folded;and "tall" mode, with the rear seat flipped up, creating a storage area up to 126 cm tall.
The Fit offers standard anti-lock brakes and six airbags in all trim levels. Already sporty, its extra horsepower boost gives it peppy accelerated, and its sharp handling is possibly the best in the segment. The improved rear seat also expands its cargo capability, making it easier to use than before.
