History/Overview

Compact hatchbacks are few and far between these days, with many manufacturers having abandoned that body style in favour of small crossovers. Honda still believes the hatchback has life left in it, however, having reintroduced the Civic hatch in 2017 after several years’ hiatus from the Canadian marketplace.

What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year

For 2022, the Honda Civic hatchback is all-new, as it and the Civic sedan enter their 12th generation.

Available Trims

Honda offers the Civic hatchback in LX, Sport, and Sport Touring trim levels. LX uses a 2.0L four-cylinder engine, while Sport and Sport Touring trade up to a more powerful 1.5L turbo four-cylinder. Both engines come standard with a six-speed manual transmission that you can option to a continuously variable automatic (CVT).

Standard Features

LX comes with heated side mirrors, LED headlights, a 7.0-inch digital gauge display, automatic A/C, passive keyless entry, 16-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, eight-speaker audio, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

LX trim’s safety kit comprises forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise (which adds low-speed follow and traffic jam assist with the CVT), blind spot monitor, and lane keeping assist.

Sport brings a sunroof, dual-zone A/C, 18-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel, and leather/cloth seating.

Sport Touring adds rear cross traffic monitoring, low-speed braking control, HondaLink emergency response, LED fog lights, rain-sensing wipers, a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster, auto-dimming rearview mirror, front and rear parking sensors, wireless phone charging, power-adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, a 9.0-inch touchscreen, and 12-speaker audio.

Fuel Economy

Honda’s fuel consumption estimates for the Civic hatchback are 9.1/6.6 L/100 km (city/highway) for the 2.0L engine and manual transmission, and 8.0/6.2 L/100 km with the CVT. Ratings for 1.5L turbo cars are 8.5/6.3 L/100 km with the six-speed, and 7.7/6.3 with the CVT.
