Overall Score
Bought our 06 Envoy SLE brand new late 2006. It now has 338,000kms. This SUV has been amazingly dependable through the years. Never had any major issues with the engine or transmission, both still operate very well and smoothly. Most expensive repair was a fuel pump at 240,000 km other that that nothing major ever went wrong. Still one of the best riding SUV's I've ever been in or driven, very quiet too. A few gripes include the average fuel economy and some overly cheap interior bits that had a habit of working loose. Overall have been very pleased with this model. We are replacing it with a new Yukon and hope to have the same service that the Envoy provided.

Issue: This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Safety Risk: Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. This information is printed on the bottom corner of the glass. Consumers should contact Vitro's customer service at 1-412-995-6457 or argbacklites@vitro.com to arrange for replacement of the glass.

On certain vehicles, the driver’s door module could experience electrical faults resulting a loss of switch function, erratic switch behaviour (such as power windows lowering and/or raising without driver input) or an electrical short circuit, potentially resulting in a vehicle fire. These issues could occur even when the ignition key is removed and could increase the risk of injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will install a new driver’s door switch module. In the interim, owners should park their vehicle outdoors. Note: This recall is an expansion of recall 2014-279.

On certain vehicles, the headlamp driver module (HDM) may not operate properly in high underhood temperatures. If the HDM is not operating correctly, the low-beam headlamps and daytime running lamps could fail to illuminate. Loss of daytime running lamps and low-beam headlamps could result in decreased driver's vision, as well as rendering the vehicle less visible to other motorists, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the headlamp relay (HDM) located in the underhood bussed electrical centre (UBEC). Note: this condition does not affect the high-beam headlamps, marker lamps, turn signals, or fog lamps. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2014-535.

Certain vehicles may have been built with a power steering hose that is not to specification. Under extreme steering manoeuvres, such as turning the steering wheel fully to the left or right while braking, the hose may fracture and leak fluid. If this were to occur, power steering assist would be lost and increased steering effort would be required. On vehicles equipped with hydro-boost power brakes, it could also result in loss of power brake assist and increase braking effort would be required. If power steering fluid were to spray onto hot engine parts, an engine compartment fire could occur. Correction: Dealers will inspect the power steering hose(s) for two suspect date codes and replace them if required.

These vehicles have a condition where one or two sensors in the driver's and front seat passengers seat belt retractors may be inoperative. The seat belt retractors will lock when the belt webbing is extracted during a crash; however the mechanism that locks the seat belt retractor when the vehicle decelerates quickly, such as during heavy braking, may not restrain the occupant as intended during a crash, and could result in injury to the occupant. On certain vehicles, water may seep into the windshield wiper module. If this were to happen, it could result in windshield wipers that will not turn on, cease operation while driving, fail to turn off, turn on by themselves, and/or continuous windshield washer pump operation. Improper operation of the windshield wiper system in a severe weather situation could reduce the driver's visibility, resulting in a possible vehicle crash without prior warning. Correction: Dealer will install a Gore-Tex patch over the windshield wiper module vent-hole.
