neromanceres Awesome Car of the Future Today May 03, 2013
Overall Score
I have a blue 2013 Chevrolet Volt. I've owned it for 9 months now. The car is spectacular. Good performance. The low end torque is awesome. Very quiet. I've put over 15,000 kms on mine and a tank of gas usually lasts me ~2 months. In a normal day I don't use any gas. I only use some gas for out of town longer trips. So far my overall average is 1.85L/100km and i'm 75% electric overall. This car will go right up to full speed in all electric this is not some Prius or Fusion it works different (and better). Some people are concerned about the battery. I am not. This car does not use the same battery chemistry used in laptops. It uses Lithum Manganese Oxide which is a chemestry developed for automotive applications (vs Lithium Cobolt Oxide in Laptops or cell phones). The battery has it's own thermal management system which will heat or cool the battery as needed for best performance and life. Also the car has a 16.5KWh battery but only 10.8KWh is usable. The rest is buffer to maintain best performance and life. The warranty for the battery is 8 years or 160,000kms but the battery should maintain a good capacity well beyond the warranty in our Canadian climates.
