2009 Chevrolet Equinox

NEW FOR 2009:

- Exterior colours: Silver Ice Metallic, Gold Mist Metallic and Cyber Grey Metallic added

For 2009, the Chevrolet Equinox is unchanged, save for the availability of Bluetooth as standard equipment on the upper trim lines.

The Equinox comes with a choice of two engines: a 3.4-litre V6 with five-speed automatic transmission in the LS and LT, and a 3.6-litre V6 with six-speed automatic in the Sport. All models are available in front- or all-wheel drive.

Features on the LS include 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, power mirrors, electric power steering, black roof rack side rails, rear spoiler, variable intermittent wipers, rear washer/wiper, driver information centre, tilt column, power windows with driver's side express down, fold-flat front passenger seat, cloth seating surfaces, 60/40 split-folding sliding and reclining rear seat, CD stereo, front and rear stabilizer bars, power locks, automatic headlamps, and OnStar.

The LT adds body-colour door handles, fog lamps, privacy glass, body colour roof rack side rails with crossbars, cargo net, cruise control, floor mats, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather-wrapped wheel with audio controls, premium cloth seats, six-way power driver's adjustment, rear seat centre armrest, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, and keyless entry.

The Sport adds 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, heated cloth sport seats, lowered sport suspension, hydraulic power steering, and remote starter. Roof rails and crossbars are an option.

While it's getting long in the tooth and scheduled for a makeover, the Equinox is a realistically-priced contender in the compact SUV market. Its fold-flat front seat and a rear seat that can be slid fore or aft to maximize legroom or cargo space increases its practicality. The Equinox Sport offers tighter handling and sportier performance, while still providing the interior space and cargo ability of the less-powerful models.
