2016 Cadillac Escalade ESV

Cadillac's Escalade ESV, an extended-length version of this is already imposing luxury SUV, gains new technology for 2016, including lane keep assist, Apple CarPlay compatibility and gets an enhanced version of the brand's CUE infotainment system.

For obvious reasons, the Escalade ESV doesn't have many direct competitors. Among the most obvious is the Lincoln Navigator, but Cadillac expects the ESV to be cross-shopped against European and Japanese models like the Lexus LX 570, Infiniti's QX80, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and Land Rover Range Rover. The ESV has a real edge, however, in a huge interior that comes thanks to a chassis shared with the Chevrolet Suburban.

But where the Chevrolet makes do with a 5.3L V8, the ESV uses a 6.2L unit that feeds 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque into an eight-speed automatic transmission and through standard 4WD.

Fuel consumption estimates, according to Natural Resources Canada test methods are 16.0/11.2 L/100 km (city/highway).

Standard kit includes magnetic ride control suspension with sport mode and rear auto-levelling, heavy-duty suspension, low-range 4WD gearing, side assist steps, acoustic laminated glass, LED headlights, hands-free power liftgate, LED taillights, backup camera, front and rear park assist, 20-inch wheels, rain-sensing front wipers, 12-way power front seats, active noise cancellation, tri-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable pedals, cruise control, driver-configurable gauge cluster, intelligent keyless entry, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, navigation, 16-speaker stereo, wireless charging and satellite radio.

Luxury trim adds Cadillac's safety alert seat, forward collision alert, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, side blind zone alert, sunroof, 22-inch wheels, head-up display and power-adjustable second-row bucket seats.

Premium models get front and rear automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, rear-seat entertainment system, automatic safety belt tightening, electric parking brake and front cornering lights.

Finally, the Platinum trim comes with dual second-row DVD screens, 18-way power driver and front passenger seats, leather-trimmed dash, console and doors, microfibre suede headliner, platinum door sill plates and unique 22-inch wheels.

Prices range from $87,620 to $107,220.
