Issue: On certain vehicles, the compliance label lists incorrect tire and rim sizes. As a result, when the rims and tires are replaced, the wrong rims and/or tires could be installed. This could lead to poor handling and/or a tire failure. Safety Risk: Poor handling or a tire failure could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: None of the affected vehicles have been delivered to owners. BMW will instruct dealers to replace the compliance label before each vehicle is delivered.

Issue: On certain vehicles, there may be a problem with the rollover sensor in the airbag control unit. This can cause the airbag system not to detect a vehicle rollover. As a result, the curtain airbags may not deploy and other safety systems may not activate in a rollover. Note: When you start the vehicle, if there is a problem with the rollover sensor, the airbag warning light in the instrument panel will stay on. Safety Risk: Curtain airbags that do not deploy and safety systems that do not work properly could increase the risk of injury in a rollover crash. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, BMW recommends that you should not carry any passengers in your vehicle until the recall repairs are completed. BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the airbag control unit.

On certain vehicles, a crankshaft sensor error may cause the engine to stall. This would result in a loss of motive power, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the crankshaft sensor. Note: This condition would result in the illumination of the check engine warning lamp and an “engine malfunction” message appearing in the instrument cluster. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2018-373.

Certain vehicles may not comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 101 – Location and Identification of Controls and Displays. Due to a software error, the instrument cluster may not turn on when the vehicle is started. This could disable various control telltales and warning symbols, thereby failing to meet the requirements of the standard. This could also result in the driver not being aware of malfunctions, which could affect vehicle performance and increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will update the vehicle software.
