There is no base M4 Cabriolet and no rear-drive Competition in Canada. The 2025 update raised the Competition models to 523 hp and added new headlights, laser taillights, BMW's curved display and a new M steering wheel. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h, or up to 290 km/h with the M Driver's Package.

What's next for the M4
- Longer run: BMWBLOG reported in February 2026 that production of the current 4 Series, including the M4 coupe and convertible, may be extended to about mid-2029.
- Electric successor: BMWBLOG has reported that the next M4 will be electric and arrive after 2028.
- Engine update: BMW announced in May 2026 a new pre-chamber ignition for the M2, M3 and M4 engine, with output unchanged; Canadian timing wasn't mentioned.
None of the successor timing has been confirmed by BMW.

Recalls: Transport Canada lists no recalls under the M4 name; BMW's coupes appear under the 4 Series. Recent 4 Series recalls include starter overheating campaigns on 2021 to 2024 models (2026-040 and 2026-331), but they don't name the M4, so check a specific car by its VIN.

The first M4 ran from 2015 to 2020. The current generation arrived for 2021, and M xDrive all-wheel drive became available on the M3 and M4 that year.
