Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the external sound generator to not work properly. Under certain conditions, the vehicle may not produce enough sound to be detected by a pedestrian or cyclist. New Canadian regulations require electric vehicles to make a minimum sound level when operating at low speeds. Safety Risk: An external sound generator that doesn't work could create an increased risk of injury for pedestrians and cyclists. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the external artificial sound generator software.

Issue: On certain vehicles, debris may have entered the high-voltage battery cells during production. As a result, the battery could short circuit. Note: This is an expansion of BMW recalls 61 84 22RC and 61 85 22RC (Transport Canada Recall 2022-404). Safety Risk: A short circuit in the battery could create a fire risk. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and inform you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the battery cell module(s) of the high-voltage battery. BMW advises not to drive or charge your vehicle until the recall repairs have been completed, and to park outdoors away from other vehicles or buildings.

Issue: On a small number of iX M60 models, the final drive gear in the rear axle drive unit may not have been properly welded. As a result, the weld seam of the final drive gear could break. If this happens and the vehicle is parked without the parking brake on, it could roll away. Safety Risk: A parked vehicle that moves unexpectedly could increase the risk of an injury or a crash. Corrective Actions: None of the affected vehicles have been sold to retail customers. BMW will replace the rear axle electric drive unit before the vehicles are sold to retail customers.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the air bag control unit may not work properly due to a software error. As a result, the airbag warning light and warning messages may not turn on when there is a problem with the airbag system or the pedestrian protection system. Note: This recall replaces Transport Canada recall 2022-183. Vehicles that were repaired under that recall also require this repair. Safety Risk: An airbag system that does not work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the airbag control unit software. To reduce the safety risk, BMW recommends that you should not transport any passengers until the recall repairs have been completed.

Issue: When using the valet parking mode, a software problem could cause certain warning messages not to appear on the central information display. If this happens, the driver would not be alerted about these specific problems with vehicle components and/or systems. Additionally, it may not be possible to adjust the brightness of the instrument cluster. Canadian regulations require warning lights or messages to display when certain faults are detected. The regulations also require an adjustment for the brightness of the instrument cluster. Safety Risk: A driver that does not get warning messages about problems with vehicle components and/or systems could have an increased risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the head unit software.
