History/Overview
Lest you write off the SQ8 as just another luxury SUV, consider the fact it shares a platform with the Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga, and Porsche Cayenne: While this range-topping Audi SUV is not cheap, it’s arguably a bargain considering you’re getting a vehicle that shares DNA with some of the world’s most desirable luxury SUV models. Audi introduced the SQ8 in 2020 as an extension of the Q8 range, which is covered in a separate buyer’s guide entry.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2023, the SQ8 gets a few new standard features: there’s a leather-trimmed dash, remote park assist, and a revised tire pressure monitoring setup.
Available Trims
Audi powers the SQ8’s single trim with a 4.0L turbo V8, an eight-speed transmission, and AWD.
Standard Features
SQ8 exterior features include 21-inch wheels, puddle lights, adaptive air suspension, a power tailgate, auto-dimming/power-folding side mirrors, LED headlights with washers, a panoramic sunroof, passive keyless entry. Inside, you’ll enjoy heated/ventilated front sport seats with four-way power lumbar, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, rear door sunshades, leather dash/door trim, power door closers, an auto-dimming mirror, and four-zone A/C.
Among the standard tech items are a 10.1-inch infotainment display, navigation, digital gauges, a B&O stereo, a head-up display, wireless phone charging, and voice control.
The SQ8 also comes with a comprehensive suite of safety assists: 360-degree cameras, remote park assist, intersection/traffic jam/turn assist, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, active cruise control, front and rear collision mitigation, and blind spot monitoring.
Key Options
SQ8 extras include a dynamic plus package (sport differential, electronic roll stabilization), massaging front seats (which come with passenger seat memory and a fragrance ionizer), and an exterior cosmetic pack that blacks out various trim pieces.
Fuel Economy
Audi’s fuel consumption estimates are 16.1/11.3 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The Audi SQ8 can’t quite count itself among the fastest SUVs on the planet, but it will hold its own against the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, Jaguar F-Pace SVR, Porsche Cayenne GTS and Turbo, V8-powered BMW X5 and X6 models, and the Land Rover Range Rover Sport.
