With a new generation said to be arriving sometime in 2017, the A6 sedan is approaching the end of its current life cycle. But sales remain strong in spite of its age, which is a testament to Audi’s enduring reputation for quality.
There are two engine options for this model year. Both are gasoline-powered due to Audi’s inclusion in the Volkswagen Group stop-sale order on diesels by the EPA, and both come equipped with Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system and are paired exclusively with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission.
The four-cylinder 2.0 TFSI starts at $56,900 and makes 252 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque (10.8/7.3 L/100 km city/hwy), while the six-cylinder 3.0 TFSI is priced from $63,700 and makes 333 hp and 326 lb-ft (11.6/7.9 L/100 km).
Both powertrains are available in either Progressiv or Technik trim with the respective specs being close to identical on each.
With either engine, the base Progressiv trim comes equipped with 18” wheels, start-stop technology, a movement-activated trunk, eight-way power front seats with driver’s seat four-way lumbar support, heated front and rear seats and steering wheel, a 10-speaker sound system, three-zone climate control, navigation, a sunroof, and numerous other up-market features.
The top Technik trim – again, regardless of engine – adds an upgrade to 19” wheels, ventilated front seats, a rear and top view camera, power trunk open/close, four-zone climate control, a Bose 14-speaker sound system, and the Audi Side Assist lane-change assistant, among other options. With the 3.0 TFSI, Technik also includes a power sunshade for the rear window as well as manual shades for the rear side windows.
Available packages include the S Line Sport Package, which upgrades the wheels on each trim by 1” and adds sporty visual accents, the Black Optics Package (available only as an add-on to S Line Sport), the Multicontour Front Seats Package that adds 14-way power front seats with premium leather and a massaging function, and the Driver Assistant Package with Pre Sense Plus collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, and an active lane assistant.
