History/Overview

The Audi A7 Sportback is a compelling combination of sport sedan, hatchback model, and sleek styling. It shares much of its DNA with the A6 sedan, but adds a ton of practicality in a huge cargo space. If you're looking for a beautiful alternative to an SUV, the A7 is a good place to start.

Available Trims

Audi sells the A7 in Progressiv and Technik versions. Both come standard with a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine with mild hybrid assist, a seven-speed automatic transmission, and Quattro all-wheel drive. A plug-in hybrid powertrain is offered as an option.

Standard Features

New to the A7's standard equipment list this year are sport suspension, S-Line exterior styling elements, black roof trim, Amazon Alexa, a phone signal booster, enhanced digital gauges, a larger 10.6-inch touchscreen, and a music interface with two USB ports for rear passengers.

Other standard features on the Progressiv trim include 19-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, auto-dimming side mirrors, LED headlights with high beam assist, heated/power front seats, passive keyless entry system, heated steering wheel, and tri-zone climate control. The safety suite includes collision prevention assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors.

The Technik trim offers headlight washers, four-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, power-closing doors, a Bang & Olufsen stereo system, and a head-up display. It also includes a full suite of driver aids, including 360-degree cameras, rear collision avoidance system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning system, intersection assist, traffic jam assist, turn assist, and traffic sign recognition system.

Fuel Consumption

Audi's fuel consumption estimates for the A7 are 11.1/7.8 L/100 km (city/highway) for the standard powertrain; PHEV models are rated at 9.5/7.5 L/100 km in gas-electric mode and 3.4 Le/100 km in electric mode.

Key Options

On the A7 Progressiv, a new comfort package adds surround-view cameras, a power rear sunshade, ventilated front seats, and parking assist. A driver assistance package brings the advanced safety features included in Technik models.

Technik options include a contour seat package with 14-way adjustments, massage, and Valcona/Milano leather upholstery. You can also add a dynamic package with four-wheel steering.

Competition

The A7's closest competitor is the Porsche Panamera, although the Volvo V90, which has been discontinued, offers similar convenience under its more conventional wagon profile.

On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to appear on the display. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear. 

Safety Risk: 
A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. 

Corrective Actions: 
Audi will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the rearview camera software.

Audi will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to install an advanced diagnostic software that will monitor the high-voltage battery and warn you if it detects a problem. If you see this warning, you should contact a dealership to arrange replacement of the affected high-voltage battery module.

Corrective Actions: 
Audi will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the vehicle charging cable. For unsold vehicles, the dealer will remove the charging cable before they are delivered to consumers.
