History/Overview

Alfa Romeo entered the lucrative luxury crossover segment in 2018 with the Stelvio, named for an alpine road in Italy called the Stelvio Pass. It was Alfa’s best-selling model in 2021.

What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year

For 2022, Alfa has simplified the Stelvio’s trim structure, replacing last year’s Ti Sport model with a new Veloce designation. Also new are a number of standard features, which we’ve detailed below.

Available Trims

Alfa Romeo offers the Stelvio in Sprint, Ti, Veloce, and Quadrifoglio trim levels. The first three share a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine, an eight-speed transmission, and AWD. Quadrifoglio gets a 2.9L turbo V6.

Standard Features

New to the Stelvio’s list of standard convenience features are heated rear seats, navigation, wireless phone charging, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. As well, every Stelvio now includes active blind spot assist, active cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and front and rear parking sensors, all of which are marketed under the ADAS (advanced driver-assistance system) label.

Also included in the base Sprint is leather upholstery, 18-inch wheels, power-adjustable front seats, forward collision warning/mitigation, an 8.8-inch touchscreen, a 7.0-inch gauge display, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, passive keyless entry, remote engine start, xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights,

Ti trim adds Level 1/2 autonomous driving ability, 19-inch wheels, hands-free tailgate, a dual-pane sunroof, limited-slip differential, and a rear diffuser.

Veloce gains 20-inch wheels, sport-tuned suspension, and sport seats.

Finally, Quadrifoglio gets upgraded brakes, carbon fibre trim, a race drive mode setting, torque-vectoring differential, adaptive damping, and Alcantara upholstery.

Key Options

You can add a 14-speaker stereo, which comes bundled with leather dash and door panels. Ti trim offers an active assist plus pack of an alarm system, driver attention alert, intelligent speed assist, highway driving assist, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, and traffic jam assist.

Fuel Economy

Alfa Romeo’s fuel consumption estimates for the Stelvio are 10.8/8.3 L/100 km (city/highway) with the 2.0L engine, and 13.9/10.3 L/100 km with the 2.9L turbo V6.

Competition

If you’re shopping for a compact luxury crossover, the Stelvio is one among a group that also includes the BMW X3, Porsche Macan, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Infiniti QX50, Genesis GV70, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Acura RDX, Lexus NX, Lincoln Corsair, and Buick Envision.
