Although it always seems in danger of being discontinued, Acura’s NSX hangs on for another year, moving into 2005 with no changes.

Available in one trim level only, the NSX features a 3.2-litre V6 that makes 290 hp and 224 lb-ft of torque, hooked to a six-speed manual. Features include ultra-high-performance 17-inch tires wrapped around forged aluminum alloy wheels, CD/AM/FM/cassette Bose system with trunk-mounted six-CD changer, automatic climate control, keyless entry, variable intermittent wipers, power mirrors, high-intensity discharge headlights, removable aluminum roof panel, and leather interior with four-way power driver and passenger seats.

The NSX is a pricey and aging model, especially when matched against the competition; a Viper makes 210 more horsepower and costs $15,000 less, while a Corvette hands over an extra 110 hp for less than half the NSX’s price. It was outrageous and well ahead of the pack when it was introduced for 1991, but since then, it has mostly stood still while the rest of the competition caught up.

Still, there’s an undeniable exotic appeal to the NSX, especially given the fact that you’ll be the only one in your neighbourhood driving one. Made of lightweight aluminum, the NSX accelerates vigorously, handles with scalpel-sharp precision, features a silky-smooth shifter, and rare among exotic supercars, is civilized and comfortable enough for everyday driving.

The NSX is built in Suzuka, Japan.
