History/Overview
Genesis’s offering in the mid-size luxury sedan class is the G80, a car that started out as the Hyundai Genesis before being spun off as the central model in a stand-alone upscale brand. Genesis redesigned the G80 last year.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the second-generation G80 gains a new Sport trim level, the top trim is renamed Sport Plus in place of last year’s Prestige.
Available Trims
The full range of G80 trims comprises Advanced, Sport, and Sport Plus. Advanced uses a 2.5L turbo four-cylinder engine, while Sport and Sport Plus upgrade to a 3.5L turbo V6. Both motors are matched with an eight-speed transmission and AWD.
Standard Features
Advanced trim comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, auto on/off LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, passive keyless entry, and a hands-free trunk. Inside, you get a heated steering wheel with power tilt/telescope, an 8.0-inch digital gauge display, three-zone A/C, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, heated/ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. Among the G80’s high-tech features are a 14.5-inch touchscreen, a 21-speaker audio, wireless phone charging, and a head-up display.
The G80’s safety suite comprises rain-sensing wipers, blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, lane depart warning, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, forward collision mitigation with pedestrian/cyclist detection, driver attention warning, rear occupant alert, adaptive cruise, highway driving assist, surround-view cameras, front and rear parking sensors, and a blind spot view monitor.
Sport adds 20-inch wheels.
Sport Plus gains rear-wheel steering, a 12.3-inch gauge display, a power front passenger seat, Nappa leather, and remote park assist.
Fuel Economy
Genesis’s fuel consumption estimates for the G80 are 10.8/7.9 L/100 km (city/highway) for Advanced trim and its 2.5L engine, and 14.8/9.9 L/100 km for the V6-powered Sport and Sport Plus trims.
Competition
As Genesis’s mid-range sedan model, the G80 faces off against the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and A7, Mercedes-Benz E- and CLS-Class, and Volvo S90.
