2025 Acura MDX Ditches Trackpad for Touchscreen, Adds 31-Speaker Audio System

The 2025 Acura MDX is ditching its trackpad infotainment controller. The largest Acura gets a facelift for the new year, along with some big upgrades to the vehicle's tech features, but the new touchscreen is what has really grabbed our attention.

Acura was one of the last holdouts to use a trackpad interface for its infotainment system. The company notes the driver focus of its "True Touchpad Interface"; but in a review of the 2024 MDX, AutoTrader contributor Kunal D'souza found it unintuitive, saying, "It works, but it’s annoying and requires practice."

The new system uses a 12.3-inch touchscreen and Google Built-In. The Google software offers a more smartphone-like experience and includes Google Assistant and Google Maps. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also standard.

Another big change for the 2025 MDX is Acura's switch from ELS to Bang & Olufsen audio. The 2025 update adds more speakers to every version of the MDX, with up to 31 on offer in the top-spec MDX Type S Ultra.

The 355-hp turbocharged Type S Ultra also comes with a head-up display, 16-way power seats with Ultrasuede bolsters, and nine-way massage. It has a heated steering wheel and Acura's surround-view camera system, plus 21-inch wheels and a unique front fascia.

Non-Ultra models also get a new front end and new wheels. Acura has added new laminated rear door glass to Tech and higher models, with new insulation for a quieter cabin. The extra real estate from the touchpad's removal has been repurposed to add a wireless charging pad. The redesigned console also has more storage space.

AcuraWatch, the brand's driver assistance suite, has a new camera and radar sensor for better performance. It can see farther and at a wider angle down the road for better collision avoidance performance. Ultra models get active lane-change assist, lane-change collision mitigation, and front cross-traffic warnings.

Expect the 2024 Acura MDX at dealers in June. Pricing and full details will come closer to the launch.
