Midsize luxury sedans can provide a unique driving experience compared to trucks and SUVs with the bonus of roomy interiors, smooth handling, and a more traditional profile. Cadillac's CT5, introduced in 2020 as a replacement for the CTS, is a great example, and a refreshed 2025 model has debuted at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show.
Cadillac Shows Confidence in its Midsize Sedan's Future
Like most three-box-design cars, sales of midsize luxury sedans have declined for several years, but Cadillac's CT5 seems to be bucking that trend. According to Cadillac, CT5 sales in the U.S. are up 35.6 per cent year-over-year, including a 70.6 per cent jump in August. Globally, sales have risen by 27.7 per cent.
"CT5's importance in Cadillac's portfolio can't be overstated," said Global Cadillac's vice president John Roth. To back that statement up, the 2025 version of the CT5 is receiving several updates to continue attracting discerning luxury sedan buyers.
New 2025 CT5's Cockpit More "Driver-Centric"
In what is becoming a trend, the 2025 Cadillac CT5 is getting a large digital cockpit display that combines driver instrumentation and infotainment. The LED colour touchscreen stretches 33 inches diagonally from the driver's left side to right across the centre stack. The display boasts a 9K resolution and a customizable user interface. The expansive digital screen also allows access to built-in Google, which includes Google Assistant, Maps, and Play for hands-free communication of live traffic updates and the ability to download apps for podcasts, news, and music. There's also an available 5G Wi-Fi hotspot.
As massive digital screens are becoming common inside luxury cars, so is more driver safety technology. So, for its refresh, the Cadillac sedan's safety suite adds Blind Zone Steering Assist, Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, plus optional Traffic Sign Recognition and Intelligent Speed Assist.
One of the biggest perks of the CT5 is the availability of Super Cruise. This sophisticated semi-autonomous driving system allows for hands-free highway driving on roads that Cadillac has mapped. For 2025, the CT5 adds Driver Attention Assist into the Super Cruise package.
The New CT5 Gets More Elaborate Front and Rear Lighting
Following the elaborate and intricate exterior lighting themes from Cadillac's latest Celestiq and Lyriq battery-electric vehicles, the front and rear fascias of the 2025 CT5 have been refreshed. The front-end design gets a lower and wider grille, redesigned vertical lighting and stacked LED headlamps. The CT5 Sport trim gets a black mesh grille and specific trim details.
Turbocharged Gas Engines Return for 2025
Cadillac hasn't announced pricing, trim or equipment availability details for the 2025 Cadillac CT5, which goes on sale in early 2024. But we know the standard and most popular engine, the 237-horsepower 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, and the optional twin-turbo 3.0L V6 with 335 hp, return for 2025. Both gas-only engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, with rear- or all-wheel drive to choose from.
As for the sportier CT5-V and Blackwing models, Cadillac says they're also returning for 2025, but we'll have to wait for more details.
