Infiniti has just priced its new QX50 crossover, and pre-orders are now available. And in a new twist on car sales, placing a pre-order and sharing it on social media widely could help early buyers win prizes.
The QX50 is a big deal for Infiniti. It launches the first production variable compression ratio engine and adds ProPilot autonomous driving features. So the company is launching it in a new way it hopes will help build sales.
It works like this: pre-register to buy a 2019 QX50 and share it on Facebook or Twitter between now and May 31. If one to 1,000 people do that, Infiniti will give each buyer a one-year Apple Music subscription. If between 1,000 and 2,000 people do, buyers get an Apple 4k TV receiver as well. And if more than 2,000 people pre-order and share, everyone who buys a QX50 before September 30th will also get an Apple Watch. It's an unusual way to get early orders for a vehicle.
The QX50 will come in two trims, Luxe and Essential, both with the 268 hp variable compression turbo-four and all-wheel drive. Luxe will have a power tilt wheel, 19-inch alloys, LED lighting, panoramic moonroof, and leatherette heated power seats. Essential is actually the luxury model, adding full leather seats as well as a surround view monitor.
Essential will also be available with three option packages. ProActive adds ProPilot steering assist, radar cruise control, and lane departure. The semi-autonomous system can handle some single-lane driving conditions. It also has high-beam assist, head up display, park assist, and cross traffic alerts. A Sensory package adds 20-inch wheels, premium leather, ventilated seats, Bose audio, adaptive LED headlights, and Ultrasuede accents. Finally, an Autograph package adds white leather with blue Ultrasuede accents, blue stitching, and blue piping to the seats.
The QX50 will arrive at dealers in June.
