Honda Builds 200 kph Lawn Mower

Honda has channelled its inner Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor for a second time with the Mean Mower Mk. 2. It's a motorcycle-powered lawn mower that's capable of more than 217 km/h.

The Mean Mower Mk. 2 was Honda UK's attempt to put its name back in the Guinness Book of Records. Four years ago, the Mean Mower hit nearly 190 km/h, giving it the record, only for a Norwegian mower with a Corvette V8 to steal it away the next year. Honda wants that record back.

The Mean Mower Mk. 2 was built by Team Dynamics, the team that builds Honda's British Touring Car Championship racers.

It starts with the engine from a Honda Fireblade motorcycle. 999cc, 190+ hp, 13,000 rpm, and no-lift shifting. The bike has traction control and ABS, and so the mower gets those too. The grass catcher and front hood are from a Honda HF2622 riding lawnmower, but nearly everything else is custom for this build.

The seat is carbon, the brakes are titanium, and it weighs less than 200 kg ready to go.

Now it's time to wait for Honda to take it to the track and see if they can take back the record with stunt driver Jess Hawkins behind the wheel.

Oh, and yes. It can still cut grass. Thanks to a pair carbon-fibre blades and an electric motor.

While we wait for Honda to make that record attempt, here's Honda's teaser video for the new lawnmower Type R.
