How to Make a McLaren Sexier - Take Its Top Off

If you thought the quite striking McLaren 675LT couldn't become even more striking, think again. You haven't seen it with its top off yet. The British manufacturer has unveiled the second model from their lineup that will sport the F1-inspired Longtail badge (LT, get it?), a name that hadn't been used since 1997 on the F1 GTR "Longtail".

The limited edition 675LT Coupe sold like hotcakes. This time around, 500 units of the 675LT Spider will be produced. The design will be as striking as the dressed up, 2-door Coupe. The Longtail Spider is also 100 kg lighter than its sister convertible, the 650S, thanks to the extensive use of carbon fibre in the bodywork. This version of the Longtail will be offered in an exclusive Solis-colour dress with ultra lightweight 19- and 20-inch, 10-spoke wheels fitted with P Zero Trofeo R tire, the lightest ever offered by the manufacturer. On the inside, the LT Spider boasts McLaren P1-inspired racing seats and 675LT embossed leather accents.

Now imagine running the 0-100 km/h in under 3 seconds with your hair in the wind. How about the 200 km/h? It will take you 8.1 seconds. Don't blink or you're going to miss it all. The Spider is powered by an upgraded 3.8L twin-turbo V8 that sounds like the angels came down from heaven to sing. You are sitting on 666 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque for a top speed of 326 km/h. But because fuel economy is a concern even when you buy a US$388,900 supercar, McLaren declares that the Spider will provide a 13.1 L/100 km average fuel consumption.

The LT Spider is in fact the 5th model debuted this year for McLaren (five!) alongside the P1 GTR, 675LT Coupe, 570S Coupe and 540C Coupe. No word yet as to when the model is expected to be available, but if the sales of the Coupe variant are any indications, you might want to start lining up right now.
